i'm using some new xbox wireless controller, that MS is making now, not tied to a console it's just called "XBOX Wireless controller " not "XBOX One or series X or whatever they are calling the current gen these days. . ."
I had trouble with that controller at first. it feels "cheaper" and shoddier than the xbone controller, and the buttons are noisier and stickier and their clicks feel wrong and steam games didn't want to recognize it as an xbox controller and i thought i got a chinese knockoff but apparently this is what MS is making now and they charge the same AAA price for it so i guess that's what i have to use now since my old xbone controller wore out and they don't sell those anymore. ..
but it's working for pathfinder kingmaker, so hopefully it works here too?
My advice: try to get a proper Xbox controller OR a Steam Controller. I love mine, although they are rare to find these days... Just saying.
i can't find xbone controllers anymore.
i guess i just don't know where to look.
walmart and amazon and best buy never seem to have them. . .
but the main question, i guess it got answered, but i'm not sure. .. does this game even have controller support?
as for steam controller
i have a steam controller and it broke after 2 months of use. i dunno if it's "broken", but it started doing something where it would randomly start rapid firing the buttons as if i was pressing them really fast but i wasn't pressing them at all. . i was very disappointed in it.
i went on the forums and kept asking for technical help and i was just ignored, nobody ever responded to my threads
but then also the fact that it doesn't have right thumbstick and when i criticized that feature (or lack thereof) people responded to THAT. fanbois trying to dogpile me, claiming that i'm just nitpicking and being an entitled brat and should just go buy an xbox controller and so i did. .
have you ever updated firmware? mine has worked perfect for like 5 or 6 years now since i got it. i use it for quite a few games, probably has 200 hours of use on it. i dont eat food and use my stuff though, i wash hands before using them.. also i think it helps i dont beat off at my pc. hope this helps
Well then what the heck do you use the pc for besides games? Half it's purpose gone down the drain but at least no more callused hands though.
i recently discovered that steam allows you to reconfigure the xbox controller and map keyboard functions to it, just like the steam controller so i can olay games that have no support. i played through witcher 1 with my xbox controller that way, so i'm not really getting any compulsion to wipe the dust off my steam controller.
and i prefer to do that other business . .elsewhere
the only annoyance was sometimes i would want to talk to a shopkeeper and accidentally grab an item they had on the counter and suddenly now i'm branded as a thief and had to reload my save. . .
I couldn't get past the login screen. Its like certain functions are mapped but others are not and unlike most other games the transition between kb/mouse to a controller isn't seamless. So I couldn't create a login name since there was no keyboard layout to type from and the KB won't work because its de-activated if you choose controller settings. I don't remember having this issue with the first game though.
i had to get used to controller because my keyboard broke on my old laptop(i have a new one now) and i ended up having to download a third party virtual keyboard app and had to alt tab between the game and the virtual keyboard or some games it would let me copy paste, other games not.
i mean, it shouldn't be "that" hard to make that in game keyboard that you see in all the old school console rpgs.
but i digressed.
at least in this game, i'll be satisfied if you can move the character around and access the menu and stuff.
crpgs always have to have this think where they utilize tons of keys and it's like "j for journal", "i for inventory" "h or c for the hero/character sheet" "m for the magic spellbook" etc. . .
but i have seen many with controller support just have "Y to open the menu, then L and R to toggle between the different types"
so it can be done. you don't "need" all those keys.
you just need movement for the character
a button to interact with the environment
a button to open the menus
a button to access the action bar
a button to open the map screen
a button to open the options screen to save the game.
you would have a hard time with it on a retro nes controller but
a modern controller has more than enough buttons on it.
and i just realized something, i hardly ever use my computer for anything other than playing video games, lol. my computer has become an all purpose game console, than can also surf the web. .as an afterthought.
heck, i'm not even using my computer to type this on my mobile device doing this, while i play another game on my pc.
anyhoo, the winter sale is over. i might buy this in the future if it goes discount again
Luckily I am not a very retro gamer. So I won't have to suffer through NES anything bwhahahahah!!! and you are not alone. I have my PC hooked up to a TV in the corner of my bedroom acting like a one stop entertainment system and yes I mostly use my PC for games. Not much into mobile apps and chats though. Might have some podcast running from my phone while I play.
