Payaso Turret = best weapon? (mild spoilers)
I can't find a good reason to equip another weapon on the Kodiak besides the Payaso Turret on the Kodiak. Other than special circumstances, of course (Steeltown, for example).

But for general travel, most of the other weapons I wind up in a situation where I can't fire them. Maybe if I committed to always having 0 Animal companions, another weapon would be better, but assuming I have either an animal or a melee Ranger/companion.

So, basically, a lot of weapons are useless unless I forego Animals/Melee completely, which I don't consider a good answer to my question. Helix Turret is better in total (Payaso: 480-640, Helix 660-960), but takes 6 AP instead of 4 AP for Payaso, so you often only get 1 volley instead of 2 in a turn, & comes out worse on per AP math anyway.

Compared to some of the other weapons, Payaso doesn't do the best damage, but it's simply always useful, no matter who we're facing, or what round of combat it is. I'd love to hear dissenting opinions though, on something else I should consider. Also, "switch to X weapon only when doing Y mission" would be good insight.

i prefer rail gun because it has higher range, and because the cluster mines mortar weapon does damage based on your main weapon damage according to the tooltip, and the rail gun does a lot more base damage so the cluster mines benefits a lot more. My cluster bomb was doing over 1k damage with rail gun equipped. Cluster bomb is disgusting btw.

6 AP attack is OK because you can attack twice if you have morningstar AI (+2 ap) + the plating you buy from the friendly robot shop in denver (another +2 AP for total of 12 AP). Sure I guess that means you could attack 3 times with payaso vs 2 x with railgun but I do prefer the railgun in the long run.

Don't forget to examine the special abilities of the guns, it's not entirely about their main attacks.

I don't really have a favorite gun for the kodiak, but I've heard good things about the Fullborer. That said, if you're running the Zoo Crew approach with melee character, the Payaso Turret might be the best option, for you.

I also prefer the rail gun, think it has the highest range of all the vehicle guns. Not that it matters against the golden scorpitron!

Rail Gun is fair, but you have to do spoiler: bring Valor in alive to get it.

It may factor in, do you get Experience if the Kodiak kills an opponent? As in, is it better if you Payaso an enemy down, but don't kill it, then your Ranger finishes it? vs a weapon that kills an opponent outright? Just for min-max'ing consideration?

you get full exp if kodiak kills things in any fashion whether it's shooting its gun or running things over, no need to soften up targets first for a ranger to kill

payaso is an accessible powerful gun until railgun becomes available, that's all that needs to be said don't overanalyze it

In one round my Kodiac use 2 weapons in combo ... my absolute fun 1'st choice :D

Kodiac shoots electrifying sizling "orb" on clustered enemys. And then
"goat butts" them, so they are immobile in the orb ... for a few rounds :D

Damn ... you should hear them complaining and utter "death" moans through the
rounds ... for they know they are dead, even though they are still alive :D

btw the plasma spitter is a pretty good alternative to payaso. The range is a little worse but it has an extremely flexible attack at 2 AP and good damage per shot. It is not hard to get either just beat up the plasma turret in the tellurium mine.

I like the magneto cannon cuz it looks fkin awesome. I thought the payaso turret was good. But blasting whole groups away is funnerest..

I do not know why, but I had to giggle at the thought of "beating up" a turret rofl try googling "SGR-A1" to see what I mean... :-P I know its not the same, but still funny picturing a dude running up to a turret with a sledgehammer to try to take it out of commission xD
