Junk Selling.
Hey I have a question about selling Junk. I have an NPC that has a Barter Skill maxed out. Yet when I go to sell anything I only get $3 dollars for it at the armoury, or in downtown Colorado Springs. Am I doing something incorrect?

do you have the perk to get 40 times their value? also it's 5% chance that it can trigger.

Everything has a "buy it for this" price at a vendor and a "we'll buy them from you for that" price. It's retail versus wholesale/used/trade-in, basically. The $75 that some junk items are priced at is what the vendors sell them to YOU for, not what they GIVE you for those items. A given $75 junk item will start at like $18 as the used price and go up to like $23 once you have Barter maxxed.

If you have the Antiques Appraiser Perk from level 7 of Barter, all Junk items you sell will have a random 5% chance of selling for 40X their list price, randomly, when you sell them. If you do the math, this effectively, approximately triples the money you'll get from selling off Junk as compared to what you get without Antiques Appraiser.

That said, you never get "retail" when you sell junk, or anything else, to vendors, it works like the real world where store owners buy for one price and sell at a higher price to make a profit.

The baseline sell rate is 5% of the listed value. If you're at barter 10 it goes up to 30% of the listed value.

Hey Pedram, I have both Barter perks.
Radiac, I am not sure what you mean by the "we'll buy it for that" option??
Radiac Jun 16, 2021 @ 5:20pm
Vendors buy your junk for a lower price than they would sell said junk back to you at, so as to make money for themselves. So they have a "retail" price, which is the $75 that the game tags the item at, and then there's the price they'll buy your junk from you at, which is considerably less than that, if you look at the prices they offer for random circuit boards and so forth when you sell junk. With Barter maxxed, you get like $22-23 for an item that would nominally retail for $75.
And then if the Antiques Appraiser perk kicks in, you get like $880 for it when you sell it instead of $22 ($22X40 = $880, math)

I am having a similar issue, I have AA and after selling trash, I exit the vendor dialog and will get pop-up saying "Item sold at auction for $120" but when looking at inventory the funds are not shown.

It updates your cash as soon as you hit the "Sell Junk" button from whatever money you had before to whatever money you have now, is that number not considerably higher after selling? Because that message pops up kinda late and you only see it AFTER you go off the vendor screen but the new money total should be higher as soon as you hit "Sell Junk"
Also you probably sold a lot of other junk items for the normal amounts, so you're going to be up more than the $120 it just reported, assuming you're not selling items one at a time.

No definitely not matching up. I assumed I was imagining things so I made a spreadsheet and documented cash before selling, cash after selling. In the incident I mentioned I was only up like $90 after selling 12 $3 items, So more than $36, but not near $120 + misc I "should" have gotten.

Now you mentioned selling items one at a time... I am. Is this an issue?

Yes after update it is incredible hard to buy and sell because of crafting. Devs totally ruined barter usefulness.

Really hoping the devs focus on fixing these ongoing/new inventory management issues and pet/companion AI/pathfinding in the next patch(es). Some significant work and polishing are clearly still needed in these areas.

I haven't started a new game since the patch, so I can't comment on that. In my three runs, I used to hit "Sell Junk" and watch the "You sold an Antique" reports afterwards, and assumed it did the math right, because I'd end up getting like $2,000 - $10,000 in cash every time I decided to stop and sell stuff. I never drilled down to the level of individual items and what I was getting for them.
