How do you deal with radiation in this game?
I usually struggle with radiation in these types of games.

You simple buy upgrades for your vehicle and that's it, as far i remember there no radiation areas when you're on foot.

Only on world map, Its kind of a soft barrier to keep you from going places you don't need to go to yet. Screw that! Take the chance and go there! I like to head to Denver early or the trainstation early to pick up a character. There are 2 areas in regular gameplay where you can interact and get radiation.

Here's the thing, sometimes radiation gives random buffs not just debuffs.
More critical chance, EXP bonus, extra inventory slot, stronger natural armor.

When you successfully deal with the refugee problem for Reyes, by defeating Stenerud outside The Bizarre, you can head back to Colorado Springs, arrest Mama Cotter, then go to Broadmoor and talk to Reyes to complete the quest and get your reward money, etc. At that point you recruit him to be your political adviser, and he tells you that he's sending some Arapaho guys to be your new HQ mechanics. When you return to the HQ, Reyes will be standing next to Greatski at that point and Jimmy Longhaul will be in your HQ garage, at which point he will SELL you the Deliverer chassis for the kodiak. The Deliverer chassis has radiation level 2 protection, which allows you to go to Aspen and that area.

The level 2 shielding will allow you to go through most areas undamaged, but the southeast plains area is level 3 radiation, so for that you need level 3 radiation protection. There are two different ways to get level 3. One, you can get the Radiation Shield mod for the kodiak, which can be found in the Department of Energy Site, south of Aspen. But to be able to mount that, you have to install the Morningstar AI from Union Station first. The other option is to deal with Valor and Vic, and when you return to HQ you'll have the ability to buy the Dominator chassis, which has level 3 radiation protection built in, so you can mount a different mod on the kodiak (there's on the makes it go faster, for example).

The Morningstar AI is worth having, since it gives the kodiak more action points in combat. It also sounds like the lovechild of K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider and Zap Branigan from Futurama.

Dumb question, I suppose, but are the chances of getting the buffs as equal as the chances of rad kicking my ass lol ? Serious question, apologies for my stupidity. I could just chance it, but... saw this post and figured I'd ask :)
