you can get weapons and armor from the toasters, some are pretty good, but I don't recall there being any unique "toaster" weapons. if there are, they aren't all that memorable.
you can get a nice pet if you find all the right pieces for it.
and finally, it's free experience, and there's a useful perk for people who do fire damage at level 7.
I put in on my flamethrower specialist and did not regret it. but overall, it's one of the weaker skills. there just aren't enough toasters to really make it.. pop. heh.
there is at least one unique weapon locked behind toasters, the Tesla Arc Projector, which is the strongest flamethrower in the game. it can be found at the toaster repair academy
It belongs to the flamethrower group but it really is just a single target cannon that deals energy damage. Kinda meh really.
No.
Toaster loots by no means give u any significant advantage, hence the skill points are better spent elsewhere.

If you don't mind traveling back and forth, you could always have a custom character back at base who puts all his skills purely in toaster repair. Once you've cleared a location go back to HQ, swap in your toaster man, come back and collect the reward.
A lot of extra work for a little benefit, but guarantees you toaster loot without having to waste points from my our main characters.
I don't think so. I tried my self several times and it didn't work. YMMV
Rank 8 gets you all the toasters you need to unlock the repair academy, which is where the verchitin armor set comes from. 70 armor +25% all resists, can bump to +85% all resists with the chest mod. The tarjan coins are nice but not build defining. Giving your tank the Verchitin armor and the 10% extra evasion from the tarjan token, along with nociception clamp for 100% crit immune can make him pretty beastly.
