Do pets level up? (Major Tom seem to)
I'm at level 13, have the first 2 perks of animal whisperer. but i keep seeing major top gain HP and armor (it has 15 armor and 1100+HP, i remember that it had 10 armor previously) meanwhile other "generic" animals like dogs or cats or bunnies have zero armor and 1/3-1/2 the HP major tom has.
Do animals level up? is it just major Tom?
Google and fandom wikis don't offer insight on this.

I'm wondering if i need to keep my doggos alive long enough for them to gain armor, or will they always have 500HP.

Anyone figured it out?

PET EXP:
Also, someone wrote that pet kills don't gain XP, can anyone confirm?

as far as damage goes, all of the pets do the exact same damage except for one or two unique pets. one of them does double normal pet damage and has thousands of hp instead of hundreds, gets 3 attacks instead of two, and even has a better evasion, hit, and crit chance than any other pet. you will figure out which one that is when you run into it. it has its own area all to itself. just it.... and the piles of corpses. don't attack it unless you are at least level 12. it likely will wipe the floor with you unless you have a powerful party, or some way of regularly stunning it (brawler).

All pets are good for are for enemy target practice because that’s better than them targeting your party.

But I don’t think they level up, maj Tom seems to because you increased animal whisper and added the perks. And maj tom is tougher than the average cat or rabbit.

Major tom seemed to have 10 armor before when i had both skills so i did not increase the skill to get the HP gain but i can't figure out what does it, sometimes the armor wobbles between 14-15 in the recent couple of levels,
Does that mean that unique pets only will also level up? and if so where do they get their levels from? from staying alive long enough? based on animal whisperer? or the character level?

Animals scale with the level of the character that has charmed them.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I've only had Major Tom and Cyborg Chicken. The latter dies always the second fight so idk. But I believe there is not an easy answer to this. As far as Major Tom is concerned:
------
1] He gets more HP the higher level you are. Also please note Major Tom has tremendous amount of HP, fairly unkillable in normal fights. Though, sadly, in harder fights his suicide berserk behavior is often a frustration and reload.
2] He gets more dmg and resist the more you use perks from the Animal whisperer tree.
3] He gives YOU higher bonuses with the perks from the Animal whisperer tree.

...and I suppose there are other ways to improve them, though I haven't found any.

you don't want to let those cyberchickens die. you want to take them back to the chicken coop at your HQ asap.

if you get all five... they pull a "Voltron" eventually and become an entirely new pet.

find healing darts and use those on any pets you want to keep alive.

That thing wit the cyborg chickens, i was wondering what's the point of them and although it's a small spoiler for me i'd have never have figured it out by myself.
Also thanks for not spoiling any plot stuff, i appreciate it.

does he? he gives me the same critical chance as a regular cat does (+6/+12), is that a bug on my part?

Btw I did some testing which also shows that animal whisper levels help a little with the animal HP, (really a bit per point, like 2%) aside from the perks themselves.

Can anyone confirm we don't get XP from pet kills?
it kinda sucks, i just met the honey badger and working to be able to get it, it'd suck to have a strong companion who for some reason doesn't give party XP...

I don't think you get XP from pet kills, I didnt realize it until a friend pointed it out and I'm not seeing XP gains when they get the final blow. Which isn't often so I think I'm fine with that.

I'm adding this as I started paying closer attention to the pets as I keep leveling. they still gain health and damage every time you level up, but...

The honey badger is weird. when I first picked it up, it had nearly 10k health, and did over twice as much damage as the other pets. it had over 60 evasion, and over 50 crit chance.

I gained a couple of levels...

and now it did the same damage as other pets and had 6500 max health. still higher health than the other pets, and it does cause bleeding on strike, so there's that. it now has 46 evasion, and about the same crit. the next level it gained health and damage again, but again, same as the other pets, just more health.

also weirdness for the "wolverine". the first time in combat, it used a ranged attack with poison darts. I thought: that's cool, finally a ranged pet that will not bumrush everything.

it has never done that since, in many, many combats.

*shrug*

I still wish they would entirely redo the pets to just be minor buffs, don't participate in combat, and are intangible so they stop blocking movement and pathing. this would fix all the pathing bugs and weirdness with abilities, blocking, etc.

but I doubt i will ever get my wish.

At normal level, if you want to play with that chaotic pets, you have to change your gameplay ... if you do, most fights will be over after one round !

I tried it and it has some different strategic approach to get them all alive through the fights :-)
but it is possible ... just going to get that ♥♥♥♥♥ :-)

Get Honey Badger and watch the world burn, that pet is ridiculus.

Honey Badger didn't join in a single fight for me. He just sat back like he didn't care.

Had about 5 or 6 fights with him doing zip... Nada. Then after a while I realised he wasn't there.

No idea what happened to him. He hadn't died to my knowledge (he wasn't involved in any fights) and he wasn't dismissed.

The only regrets I had was I had given up my stag to get the useless badger. Not sure how everyone gets a badass honey badger and I get a pacifist badger

My badger was a terminator (on normal though).
Crits around 700. Normal attacks around 260. Around 5k hp. That animal was a ridiculus ram of force.

Yeah, don't know why mine wouldn't fight. I have noticed that with other pets occasionally, but the badger never fought. I don't know if just random bad luck, a glitch, something I had done, or what.
