Brawling is amazing
Get it to level 10, or just swap in another ranger once you reach high enough level to create one with lvl10
Brawling. It reduces attack to 1AP. With high speed, can move into position in about 3AP. Maxed coordination basically gives you about 7 hits and you will almost every turn be able to use your special skill to stun enemies around you. Works well with even high armor enemies. I have Ironclad in my party and between him and my melee attacker, the two are the best damage dealers in the party the melee guy has a blade that’ll give him extra attack every two swings too. They dish out so much damage I downed those large scorpion robots in one turn.

wtf 1AP? I picked melee skill for one of my guys which was a mistake

Agreed. I've seen a lot of complaints about melee characters being sub-optimal (die too fast, not enough damage, etc) but so far it's been amazing after the first few levels of being squishy. Damage is monstrous, especially with the "Way of the Squeezins" quirk for +50% damage. And once I realized that armor was an incidental bonus and that evasion was king, most encounters are cake.

Rank 10 perk reduces AP cost of attacks by -1 AP, it doesn't make all attacks 1 AP, but a lot of the brawler weapons only cost 2 AP to use to begin with, reducing it to 1.

I also love Brawling. It does not require huge STR, boost Coordination and SPD early on and you will be great.

High level melee characters are also awesome. Especially after you get a certain sword.

Melee have more valuable perks in the long run. More named and energy weapons early on, better penetration and CC. Melee is optimal from start to finish. Brawling takes a bit to and heavy investment to deliver the big dps.
Brawling you can attack a load of times but it only gets really strong after the mid game.
With blades you can do an extra free attack and change to a blunt if you have a lot of enemies around to get the passive armor per enemy around you. You can bleed, stun destroy armor and so on.

It's good, but the mechanic is unnecessarily complicated. They should lower it to 2 ap per attack and make the max combo 5 or something, or make the 3 ap do 3 attacks. It should be more fluid than it is.
