Is there a point for animal whisperer? Is it worth it?
I checked some wikis and it seems you need it at 6 at most for the wasteland wolf, otherwise it's a big investment for a follower you don't control and will likely die quick.

Yes. Worth it on a couple of recruits at least, especially later in the game as you have extra points. Animals are everywhere. They make good fodder at the very least, and a few of the animals you find are extremely tough. Even if they like to run through flames and poison. I hope the devs just add negative modifiers to enemies that cause terror instead of fixing AI pathfinding. Must be terrifying having a flaming deer running through a battlefield to gore your best raider bud.

Animal Whisperer is AMAZING, the pets are great tanks, once you reach 6 you can tame animals that are also strong offensive fighters and at 10, there is a secret surprise (if you find it) which is likely to win you fights on its own.

But you can only have 1 at a time, right?

I like it, shame you cannot have it on 6 guys its one per team which is lame :P

Also useful to turn enemies in fights, much like the horribly overpowered vs machines nerd skills

One per Ranger that has the necessary skill. Had a rapid dog that caused poison bites and one of those spiked marmot things with two recruits. Spiked marmot had like three attacks, 1300HP, and the dog just ran around poisoning everyone. They work great with a medic. Just throw darts at them every once in a while and they decimate battlefields.

And are there companions that require no skill? Like robots or monsters?

Don't want to completely spoil it, but yes. Do you like discos?

I try hard not to spoil anything, I bought the game on release and I'm still trying to think of a decent party build..

You can have one-per-type and one-per-ranger.

You can't have two dogs, but you could have a dog and a cat, so long as each is following a different person.
Named pets do not count towards that limit AFAIK.

It's decent since the companions act as decent fighters though I don't think there are enough skill points to go around in order for you to have it on more than one character.

If you don't care about some skills like Hard Ass, Kiss Ass, Barter and Toaster Repair, you could probably put it on more than one character.

Thanks for the answer. Have you guys played a decent bit already? I'd like to toss in my idea for a 4 man build and see what you think. I want to make it fun and "RP friendly" so to speak

It works pretty awesome having a dog or wolf to fight with you during battles and keep the enemies on them. Best to just get one of your extra party characters to do that one I found.

100% no its 1 per party

I've added rangers with it and not been able to
I've had adds double up on the same guys (tomcat, clone, etc)

but with multiple characters with whisperer you get the message that you already have one

even freshly made characters who get made get the message

Different animals on different rangers. I know it works. I've done it.

Definitely not. I have a dog and a certain Major on my team. Two members with animal whisperer, two animals.

Not sure what is going on in your game.
