What type of character to give Nerd Stuff to?

I haven't really gotten to the point where I am fighting robots yet. Nerd stuff right now is only for terminals. Later in the game do you use it during combat? If so, what type of character is good for it? I was thinking of having my sniper be my Nerd Stuff person, but if you need to be close up to use it during battle, then maybe it's not a good choice. I have a heavy weapons guy who could learn it too I guess, but kind of a hard decision.

I might also skip it, but I assume it is pretty useful when fighting robots.

You need to be right up close to use Nerd Stuff to take control of a Robot. If you are putting it on your sniper it would be as a last resort on a melee robot approaching him. Personally I put it on my gunslinger character.
