No Colonizer Mode?

I'm considering playing on 'no colonizer mode' for the first time. What do think of it? How does it change the game? Thanks in advance.

You rely on settlements exclusively for colonization. That's... well, that's kinda it.

Do you prefer it? Does it result in a lot less end-game micro management?

You can still move colonies around, by converting them into colonizers when the city is taken, but the number of colonies is conserved.

I've heard it makes the game play more balanced because the AI doesn't always know how to expand properly. But it takes away one of the fun aspects of the game which is building your empire. It depends on what part of the game you like most.
