That being said I think it's safe to assume you can just pick any race that appeals to you at first look and come up with your own playstyle. You will have an easier time getting the hang of how best to utilize a unit thanks to having played AoW III. Like, you'd surely feel familiar with the Kir'Ko transcendent unit as an AoW III martyr and priest rolled into one.
There are just way too many mod/secret tech/unit combinations to write any race off as straightforward though. Any race can adapt to a very straightforward or very gimmicky, or quality over quantity or vice versa playstyle, but I'll try to think of a combination as my 2 cents.
If you only consider the core units of a race, Vanguard is probably the most straightforward one not because they're braindead but because they're humans and their units are immediately recognizable due to that.
Again, any race can make use of any secret tech, but to keep it as straightforward as possible like you mentioned, I doubt you can get any more blunt than the Promethean tech; i.e. purify the world in flames, no gimmicks. Promethean also gives you a "summon" in the form of plasmoids; melee units that can plug the gap to a degree in Vanguard's no-melee roster (barring valkyrie which is a combat summon like druid's spirit summon in AoW III).
Due to the possible combinations I mentioned, I'm really struggling to come up with much else to suggest, not because there aren't any, but quite the opposite it's just that any combination can be made to conform to what you want :)
I think ill go with the Dvar or Vanguards maybe ill wait for invasion DLc.
since i paid the platinum pack with season pass.
Also what Winger said made me happy because oldschool 4X games now dont exist and current 4X games comes with a many customizable leaders civs factions whatever you name it which i like.
Or Kirko with many Transcendent so you can link pain on your frontline troops.
Or Syndicate and just pump out cheaper Indentured. Or if you really want quality, then Enforcers and Priests will work very well.
Or Vanguard and just shoot stuff.
Or Amazon and mass Lancers.
Or Assembly, if you fancy eating other players :) Massed Scavengers with Electrocutioners is a decent combination. Later on, higher range fireburst Snipers are still good.
In short, all of these basic combinations can be described as straight forward.
Vanguard are straightforward thematically but they get REKT easily in the early game if you dont know what you are doing.
I'd avoid Syndicate, they are the least straightforward.
Kirko and Assembly rely on melee for their core units, so playing them isnt as straight forward
Given that most of your criteria is actually mutable across nearly all the factions and techs, I'd say just go for the faction/tech combo that appeals to you most in theme or concept, and just play it the way you want to play it. Outside of some specific things, nearly every combo can cater to multiple playstyles.
Kirko is a lot of fun but is melee-heavy and so might be harder to manage at the start.
Syndicate is the best faction for managing strategic and tactcal ops so it would be better to learn how the game works with another faction before tackling Syndicate.
Perhaps the most difficult to manage for your first game would be the Amazons.
My first game was Dvar with Promethean tech and it was a lot of fun.
