Is Phoenix Walker a Melee Unit/Mount?

Playing the 2nd Vangaurd mission and it seems like the Phoenix Walker is the highest tier mount for the commander, should I spec my points into melee skills?

Best way to find out is to go into the in game codex and look at the abilities on the phoenix walker. I believe it has both melee and ranged abilities. It's not a melee focused unit though. At least I don't think it is.

it is melee mostly but it does have a ranged attack its kinda a bad mount

Thanks just checked the codex, it has 1 melee,plasma attack and 2 plasma attacks. The other 2 plasma attacks aren't labelled ranged though...

Doesn't seem like Vanguard has many other options, the others are all tier 3

im just impressed you could play the vanguard mission without wanting to tear your eyes out from the boring dialogue.all the other missions are vastly more interesting lol

Phoenix Walker is Tier 3 too

Laser tank is probably your best vehicle option.

The Phoenix walker is a devastating melee vehicle, with the right mods, and guess what, Vanguard has the right mods. This said, there are no native Vanguard melee vehicle, it's part of the Promethean secret technology tree, so playing a melee pilot with Vanguard may be an exercise in waiting for gratification.

As for the best Vanguard ranged vehicle, I think the Vanguard Walker is more suited for taking out crowds of enemies, while the Laser Tank is better against a single target.

Personally, I prefer the Walker. I like having firearms over lasers for my commander. Stacking staggering, incendiary and cover bypass on an area effect, repeating weapon? Yes, please.
