Im done with this game... for now
I would like to start by saying I love this game and hope the devs keep working hard to improve it. I have well over 100 hours. But I cannot continue to play the game until it is more balanced.

Sadly, the AI cheats with a boost to their energy economy on NORMAL. This is simply ridiculous. But ok..., I can live with that. It's extremely difficult to deal with them being over aggressive and rushing every single game before I can properly set up a defense.

Speaking of defenses. They need to be much better! I'm tired of the AI rushing before I can set up a proper defense. These are suppose to be advance colonies of the future and you mean to tell me they can't defend themselves off jump???

The game has alot of promise, but things need to be balanced out. And flushed out.
We need a complete overhaul to colony defense or at least give commanders and their army the ability to teleport to any besieged colony. Game balance is in a really bad spot. You add in this great tactical combat system but then undermine it with terrible/cheating AI in a resource based game mind you.

If he's going to quit the game for good, so be it. One less self-deluded trumpet for the developers to deal with. The issues with the strategic AI are already recognised and aren't going to be solved overnight, nor will the bonus to the AI be magically removed because some user with a God complex says so.

I have 100+ hours in the game. And all i'm saying is that to compensate for the poor AI the game needs to incorporate better defenses.

When I play I have noticed a pattern: 1. The AI declares war for usually no reason. 2. Beelines right for your least defended colony. 3. Sends trash mob waves over and over. 4. Refuses to make peace even when being pawned unless they initiate the peace talks.

How would better defenses be so bad?

I want a tactical 4x game. so if the AI had to calculate higher colony defense ratings maybe that would stop the nonsense? Idk these are just my thoughts.

If you can't beat Normal, then Easy / Very Easy are your playground to practise until you learn how to play. 100 hours are not really much experience in AOW.

I can see the thread already:

[kryblade] Quitting the game, because it is impossible to beat 4 stacks + advanced militia with only 3 attacking armies.
Getting totally owned on Easy difficulty, game sux.



FYI - you already have 1k defenders on max upgrade, including some T3 units at a time where you technically can't have them researched yet. They even respawn after each turn.
Besides the 3v4 rule when defending, you also got the infrastructure upgrade, which even works when a colony is already occupied.

The game is already so heavily biased towards defense, and frankly speaking, the AI still is not very good at it.

Lol that literally makes no sense. How can the AI be bad at defense if it’s “so heavily biased towards defense?”

Maybe because its not...

Look the whole point of this game is to have awsome 4x tactical battles? Not rush stacks. I’m simply offering a suggestion to get us there. Right now the game is a mess. Its little more than a trash mob bonanza!

The amount of hostility you're throwing around in this thread suggests you've got some vested interest in his views of the game, why do you care?

I don't like liars. I don't like liars who lie multiple times in different areas with the same arguments. I especially dislike liars with hot air who insist they should have it their way because they have a God complex and everyone else has to bow to their will.

It's clear this is not an issue which will be not be fixed the way he wants it (with the AI boosts to difficulty being "removed" past the base difficulty level) so I'm arguing he can pack up and move on to other games which give him what he wants, permanently.

What's your vested interest for defending his stance when you don't care either way what random nobodies on the internet have to say?

I'm personally happy with the difficulty. Games in Normal feel like a challenge, and in the end you're one out of 6 players, should your win rate be close to 100%?

Just play enormous map vs a single AI, rush problem solved :)

Whats the point in adding all these coolsites like anomilies into the game to explore if you have to worry about defending your poorly defendable base from trash waves the AI throws at you because they decided to declare war for no other reason than they start off with more Energy than you?

The game is simply unplayable... i should be able to relax and take my time exploring and upgrading my army and colony instead of rushing to produce defenses in fear of getting rushed by annoying cheating AI.

For me that isn’t fun. I’m not saying everyone should play my way but again how would better defenses break the game?

AoW franchise is a Wargame wearing 4X clothing.

The game you want is Civ or Endless Legend. Then you can relax and play Sim City game.

In AoW, combat and maintaining offensive momentum are keys to winning. The best defense is a strong offense and every defense is an offense waiting to happen.

Good point. However the AI is simply broken in this game. Cheating on normal difficulty? lol come on.

This game was a dream come true and i’m sure the devs will fix it but that will be like a year from now... sighs 🙏🏿😓

First building I build in every colony except capital is standard defensive building. If you are unable to adapt/analyze, go play another game which allows you to do whatever you decided to do before starting the game no matter if it is a good idea or not.

I have to agree the AI is cheating like crazy - I can't even build an army fast enough to keep up with AI attacking armies of 5x6 (good level).... the research , food, happy, build times for infrastructure then units - exceeds the possibility to keep up with enemy. They must have a unit build time of 1/10th in order to product large military so fast! The math is such , you simple can't win since they can always out produce you... I am playing against 3 enemies with no locals to see how the game plays - have pace at very fast, small world, normal enemies and they seem to find resources from the air ... the math makes it impossible for me to have same number of armies at their levels.... so the game is over already.... This game is so unbalanced! Do they even test these games before releasing them, a middle school kid could have figured this out... very sad people can't perform basic math anymore to prevent the AI from being so unbalanced! PS I really liked AOW3, and I really want this game to work, but it is clearly broken as of now. Note I am talking single player only and scenarios vs. campaign .... the campaign was too boring for me, could never get that far, so little action and focus on city building vs. fighting tactics.

Complaints about game being too difficult are not valid unless you are playing at the easiest difficulty level.
