I'm expecting to see factions that are pretty standard scifi stuff: futuristic humans full of high tech weaponary, buildings, and such.
But I'm also expecting to see factions that are much more based on tradional fantasy. Lore-wise, they might be native habitants of the planet.
Of course, I'm just speculating, but it's the vibe I'm getting from it for now.
We'll know more on the coming days, they have a panel coming up tomorrow.
Nice to see that us Dutch are putting weight in the scale when it comes to game development.
Will be really nice to follow the development of this game over the coming months. I love the Age of Wonders fantasy setting (Been following since the pre-AOW 1 days... bought way to many copies :P) but Triumph Studios going Sci-Fi for this new game… I’m all for it!
Curious to learn more about this one!
Hi,
Thanks for the compliment on AoW3 : )>
On AoW:Planetfall being SciFi, all the games you mention are space 4x. We are a planet based 4X. So no spaceship, but lasers and hoover tanks. Imho, that makes AoW:PF rather different.
We call it mythological SciFi in the studio. So more positive and upbeat than grim dark.
Slapping the Age of Wonders title on this game doesn't serve this title or fans of AoW. Sounds like an interesting new take on 4x; why not just give it an entirely new title?
So until we do know for sure, I'm willing to believe some connection exists.
If AOW:Planetfall was similar and featured a high tech setting but all civilizations used only primitive weapons like swords, bow+arrow, etc, it would have been a hard pass for me.
Well, it's not like we won't do anything but sci-fi after this title.
Whahahahaha, good one : D> Thanks for that.
That said, I do love Age of Wonders, so I'm very interested in seeing what you do with this new title and I'm definitely looking forward to giving it a try. I'm hoping it will exceed my expectations and make me love it as much as any Age of Wonders game, despite the change in setting.
I heard (so could still be wrong) that there will be at least a human race, a space dwarf race, an amazon elf race, so nothing extraordinary and imo rather meh
(humans, all women society amazons and dwarfs are such boring cliché and kind of overdone at this point, sorry, I hope the other races are more interesting)
I just hope you can customize your leader and heroes again, like in AoW 3. If they expand the customization so that every class, faction race etc. can be played in many different ways, its going to be a lot of fun.
