Overwatch
I have hundred of hour on XCOM, so I know what Overwatch is. In the tutorial, second battle, I have everyone on Overwatch and the jumping things moved (with my 7 range), then jumped 3 hexes on to my units. Nobody Overwatch fired. Did I do something wrong of misunderstand how Overwatch works in Planetfall? thanks

You might have pressed the left mouse button for the ability instead of the right one.

It's weird I know, but you have to use the RIGHT mouse button to confirm overwatch.

Is there a way to swap the buttons for that btw? It's really bugging me. O_X

also that, the way mouse configuration is done in this game had made me make mistakes instead of canceling the action. Same when started with AoW3

I've seen some weird stuff with Overwatch not firing where I wasn't sure if it was me lacking understanding of how it works in Planetfall or whether there are exceptions to general rules - like with critters who jump or phase into a target hex. It seems curious at times.

mmm, now that you say that all my overwatchs fired because the bug got into range and then jumped. maybe if you are scattered it doesnt trigger if the bug jumps from outside range?

Overwatch has reduced range and is restricted by the LOS cone. The AI is very aware of this and the jumping enemies are specifically designed to counter overwatch and close to melee. The jumping bugs and the jumping spacers will give your overwatch squads a bad time.

overwatch is triggered after enemy does something in the range, not when he comes into range, so in many cases attacker fires first... then if stagger is applied then overwatch is cancelled

also, cover still applies in overwatch. cover that blocks los can be used by the enemies to move inside of your overwatch "range" and then allow them to act.

If a bug jumps on you and ends up behind you, nobody will shoot at it because your overwatch was facing forward. you can test this by having one of your units overwatch "sideways" towards your other units instead of forward.

then it will shoot at the bug if it ends up behind your lines
