Yep. I'd have AI factions on the map too. I grew up playing a lot of the old-style tabletop wargames solo, Avalon Hill and such. So it's something I'm used to.
Alternatively I'd just run two factions with different leaders as allied against a bunch of AIs. It gives you room for some nifty strategies and changes up the game a bit. Probably less than a third of my total playtime, but still welcome variety.
Agreed. And it's a great way to learn how to play the game.
