Best and Worst unit?
So what's your personal favorite and least favorite unit in this game, any why?

For me...

Best: Kir'ko Hidden. Snipers with Agile Overwatch, armor-ignoring psi damage, a teleport/concealment buff and the ability to drop a crapton of status effects on their unfortunate targets with proper use of mantra and focus upgrades...they're almost too good to be true.

Worst: Vanguard Walker. Everything it can do, another unit does better or at least far cheaper. And it's got a 24 map move so you need to slow your stacks down to bring it along...

Water only units manage to be even more useless than AoW3, as there's even less water and naval units are still unable to bombard coastal towns.

I agree on the water units. It is no problem to take out water sites by moving land units onto them. To make water units viable, they need to be stronger.

Best: Vanguard PUG

If it just had the blur cloud, heal and increased bio healing it would be good enough.

But it also has the resupply which is one of the best abilities in the game. Insanely versatile.

Worst: Baron

It's a decent support unit and it can make units very beefy. But it's not nearly good enough for a tier 3 unit with 24 move points.

Best: Void Tech Echo Walker. Versatile, powerful, fun, available early, and scale well all the way until the end of the game. Void Tech is my favorite secret tech and Echo Walkers are a big part of that.

Worst: All of the evolving units. I loved evolving units in AOW 3, but experience seems to take longer to accumulate in Planetfall and the stuff that most units evolve into is easily available long before the first evolving units turn into them. Why would I buy a T1 psy fish when I could just grab the spawn it turns into for barely more influence and immediately start improving it? Why grab more than the number of spawn necessary to get to tier 2 and start pumping out sirens? I'm really hoping for a mod to buff/expand evolving stuff in the future.

Yeah, it's the 24 move that really take it from "okay support" to "trash tier". There's not many units that are worth dropping your stack to 24 for, and the Baron definitely isn't one of them.

24 movement is far too punishing, I don't care how good the unit is, if it can't make it to the fight in time it's worthless.

For the best unit, I would say the syndicate indentured.

It's the cheapest unit in the game, if you have enough cities to produce them nothing stop you. And they are good from the start to the end, because overwatch will be realy strong at the start (when there is few long range stager capabilities) and for the mid and late game their dommage type make them realy strong against vehicules (which represent 50% or more of the high tier units).
And even if you don't want to spam them, a few mods and buffs (unkillable for a turn, resurection...) create a killing machine which is completly expendable.

Probably the most versatile unit in the game.




For the worst unit, if you exclude all the water units, I would say the syndicate snipers. On paper they aren't so bad, but:

-They need 3 action points to realy shoot, so any weapon which stagger make them useless... The other snipers have some abilities making them dangerous even if they don't have all their action points, but not them (just a very basic shot).

-It's a syndicate unit. This is terrible for this faction, because your must powerfull buffs won't work on them... (you can't give them the colar to make them indentured) Because of that any other faction sniper is waaaaaaay better for the syndicate, a simple overseer with them create one of the strongest combination in the game.

-Most of the time taking a simple indentured would be better. It's way cheaper, not having 3 action points isn't a problem, you have acess to the buffs... You even have the same dommage type ! (which work better with the indentured because you can shoot multiple times...)


Realy, if one of this point was changed it would be a good unit, but for the moment just replace them with more indentured !

Yea, baron is so bad : (
first, he have to waste nitro on himself to become useful
second, 24MP on strategic map is terrible (at least till u research rapid roads)

best unit is rift generator ( this thing is so brokenly over powered it won't surprise me if it gets nerfed)

worst hmm hard to say the vanguard bike is pretty trash tier, the dvar and amazon scouts are also pretty meh (compared to other faction scouts)

though if we added a most underwelming unit I'd say the t-rex boi fits in that slot really well

In defence off the vanguard walker if you stack damage mods on it, it does do a lot off damage.

Best unit trencher and amazon archer. cheap efficient usefull all game long, indenture are here too but their electric damage make them less good before you get the doctrine(they shine mor emid late game.

Worst?: drone carrier,vanguard walker, can't seem to make them work they don't bring much that other unit don't already do.

drone carrier is meh for the cost but it's heal drone is very very good. vanguard walker is the same but give it fire burst rounds and stack "incress damage by 20%/30%" mods on it and it really starts to shine. (but at that point ya still better off with 2 or 3 troopers or gunships with the same mods)

yeah that my problem with vanguard units their early ones are good (if a bit weak), but after the laser tank they don't bring much to your lineup... walker is a slower slightly more powerfull and tanky copter but a lot more costly. and rone carrier is nice but doesn't damage tank or support enough to be worth the price
Best. Assembly last tier unit. You can stay behind the structures and spam aoe skills with modules, becouse he is not need vision.
Worst. Avangard Bike. Really, for what this unit?

I've only played Vanguard so far.

I've found the Vanguard Gunship to be mostly worthless. It's not fast enough for being a flying unit for one thing. Maybe I'm using them wrong but I can't seem to keep them from getting shot out of the sky. Someone tell me I'm wrong, please.

Sea units. Worthless.

Vanguard Walkers costs too much for what you get. Too slow. Same with the Carrier. By the time you get them, I have the armageddon researched and underway anyway. Never get to use them.

The Gunship is a high-priority target for the AI and will always be targeted by every single gun the enemy can bring to bear because it's actually pretty damn strong. Its main gun does a good amount of damage and can be loaded with fire blast ammo to decimate entire squads at a time.

But yeah, because the AI hates them so much it's hard to keep one alive for long unless you're extremely careful with never exposing them to things that can shoot back.
