Report a translation problem
as only change from driver defaults, i've enabled the full composition pipeline:
nvidia settings -> "X Server Disp config" -> Advanced -> Force full compo pipeline

I already had vulkan-utils installed, but apparently they were not configured properly, as it turned out I always got the following warning on launching Steam:
Which I had not noticed before, since I usually don't start Steam from a terminal.
I use a gamemode script prior to launch which runs `vulkaninfo` and enables GPU performance options. Running the game with or without this script results in the same behaviour. I tried launching steam from the terminal, but I can't see any error. I'll need to pipe the logs out to file to hopefully get some details.
