Raft question: are they temporary?
Hi.

I just wanted to know if rafts are meant to be temporary or not.

I was finally able to craft one and used it twice; once to get to the island with the inn and then to get to the Bluffs area.

I left it at a pier and when I went back it had gone (saved inbetween)

Is this normal? I've noticed one or two of my campfires disappear, too, seemingly at random.

I'm just concerned because I only have 4 sealant left and don't want to use it all up and end up stranded somewhere!

They shouldn't be temporary. Sometimes the current can take them, but usually they stay where you left them. It might be better to pack them into your inventory though, that way its always with you!

I actually way surprised that I couldn't put out my camp fire ... it kept burning even during the next Eastshade days. Leaving a campfire unattended is not recommended in reality, but here you have no choice...

As to the raft - never had a raft disappearing but I too usually tucked it away when travelling on land.

Thanks for the replies, folks.

I didn't realise I could pack the raft like a tent.

As for it drifting on the current... well, it must have gone out to sea. I hope it isn't made of plastic or else I've just contributed to Eastshade global warming. (:

I searched the entire shore with no sign of my precious raft!

It may be a bug because it wasn't left in an area that had any noticeable current. It was also there when I returned from herb gathering. It only disappeared after I'd saved.

I'd still like to know if I've just used 1 of only 5 available sealants.

Sometimes when you travel far enough away, the raft (or later crafted objects, not including the campfire) will be automatically stored in your inventory.
I made a second raft and nearly a second tent before realizing this, thinking I had to recreate the ones I previously packed.
They were safe and sound under the 'equipment' tab in the inventory.

[Also, have to point out that you can indeed get more sealant, but only by paying the 500 stones pricetag that the seller mentions...for each additional jar of sealant. I bought one near the endgame, just for the achievement.]

If you complete the Sinkwood Inn quest you will get an option for a different mode of transportation not requiring sealant. :) I found that when I left it behind using mountainwort tea, I got a notice that it had been returned to my inventory.

oooooohhhh right the raft autopacks. Perhaps its in your inventory now? Haha thanks everyone I'd forgotten about that.

I never thought to check the inventory for it: I'll do that after finishing up here.

I also made two reed boats before I realised they could be packed when you disembarked... doh!

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Edit: just checked... no raft in the inventory. ah, well. I'll just have to hope i can use the reed boat for everything else. My second reed boat disappeared from the same point, even though it was rammed up onto the shore.

This game has really got to me.

I've found my raft! I can't believe how delighted I was to see it!

It had drifted from the little beach just south of Vilmar's Arch, all the way down to the riverbank south of the K K apothecary.

That's one heck of a journey it's had.

Anyway, it's safe and sound in my inventory again. You can all sleep easier tonight.
