Hello again,
Thank you for taking the time to reply and answer all of my questions. I do appreciate it.
Edited this reply to include this information:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The programmers at the Killmonday Studio have looked at the issues you're experiencing now. This is the what we've come up with so far:
For some reason, your computer may not be autosaving the game as you play and/or updating some Windows registry settings. You indicated that the game freezes just after the save icon appears on the lower left corner of the screen like this: https://drive.google.com/open?id=18loTOd2Mz8XbO_YzN_ghzhi8GUE4r5cM
If the autosave doesn't complete properly, this might explain why Misfortune becomes unresponsive to keyboard, mouse, or controller commands. Why this is happening to you is not yet clear, but if you will send the save game files to me, I'd like to see them to see if they are complete or not. We are still trying to figure out why this might be happening to you.
The save game files are located here:
c:\users\<Your Windows Login Name>\Appdata\LocalLow\Killmonday Games\Little Misfortune\
The two files I'd like to see are called:
Little_Misfortune_0.jpg
Little_Misfortune_0.save
These are the autosave files that should update automatically as you play the game.
Please upload those to the cloud and provide me with a link to them in a reply message. I'll try to load them in my game and see if they are complete or not.
And if you wish, you can try loading a save from me which is linked here:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=194S1RfNAQmYxkjlrL_nKAxWjFpMtUJjO
Then you can start up the game in the Steam Client software, select the Load option in the menu, and then select Load Autosave to resume your game in Misfortune's bedroom. Try to move Misfortune either with a mouse click or the [A] key or [Left Arrow] key or your keyboard. Does she move now?
The screenshot of the menu you posted with all the word "Error" displaying appears to be because the game is not writing to the Windows registry as it should. I'm also not sure why that is happening to you either, but if you wish to verify this, please use the regedit program and navigate to this location in the registry:
HKCU/Software/Killmonday Games/Little Misfortune
Here's what your registry settings should look like at the point your game locked up: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1lLoyYc0G-KM7IK2n8hz35EkE3GqvRd7n
Please be careful when using the regedit program as you could make your Windows computer inoperable if you delete settings that are required for Windows to run properly.
If you delete the HKEY/Software/Killmonday Games/Little Misfortune key and everything underneath it, the game will reset and you'll have to specify the Language you wish to play the game in, as well as the Input device again the next time you start up the Little Misfortune game Then the Main menu will appear again. So you can try to play the game completely from scratch by deleting this registry key. Again, please be careful. I cannot be responsible for any problems that are caused by deleting more than the key specified above.
Select the New Game option after deleting the registry key as discussed above. See if playing from the beginning again with fresh registry settings allows you to move Misfortune after the first autosave is created this time.
If this doesn't work, please download the save game files from me again, and/or copy them to the save game location again. Then start up the game and then select Load/Load Autosave and see if Misfortune can move now. If you can move her, then you can play the game again, but it may lock up the next time the autosave function tries again.
The usual reason for not writing save games and/or the registry is because of incorrect permissions under Windows. But this shouldn't happen normally because your login has permission to write to both locations (for the save games and for the Windows HKCU registry location).
Please let me know if you deleted the registry setting and tried to play again (using a New Game), and/or loaded my autosave file and if under either case, can you move Misfortune now?
I realize this is complex and cumbersome to do, and you may not wish to perform all these steps, but as far as I can see, this is the only way to troubleshoot the issue on your computer.
I'm sorry for the trouble you're still having trying to play Little Misfortune. I wish it were not this difficult to get the game to run properly on your computer which clearly exceeds the minimum specs for the game.
We'll keep trying to get it running as long as you wish to. You may wish to keep the option of seeking a refund for the game in mind however, as it is possible that a solution will not be found quickly. There is a time limit both in how long ago you purchased the game (within 2 weeks of purchase), and the total amount of time you've tried to play (must be less than 2 hours). Here's a link with the guidelines for seeking a refund from Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds/
Hello Sosiska,
Edited to include reference to post above.
If you have a computer that definitely exceeds the minimum specs for the game as shown on the Steam store page, then please refer to the post above this one here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/714120/discussions/0/2952595757894187956/?ctp=12#c3175526477764264386
The game does autosave just as Misfortune enters the kitchen, so if your computer also does not complete the autosave, this may account for the freezing at this point.
You can also try the registry hack (at your own risk), and the save game at the link in the message referred to above to see if the game performs any better for you. You will have to play just a small bit of the game again to get to the kitchen however. You may alternatively just start up a new game and see if Misfortune gets stuck in the kitchen again. Please reply with your specs and the results of your troubleshooting. Thanks.

Original reply
I'm sorry you can't move Misfortune in the kitchen.
I have some questions:
(1) You mentioned that the game became unresponsive when you got to the kitchen after loading . Did you stop playing the game and then load either the autosave (by selecting the Continue menu pick when you started playing again), or use the Load option to load either the autosave or a manual save to arrive again in the kitchen? Or did you begin playing and without stopping get into the kitchen and the game became unresponsive then? In other words, I'm trying to find out if you may have a defective save game that is causing the problem, or if you played without loading a save game when you got to the kitchen and could no longer move Misfortune? If you loaded a save game, can you try to play from the beginning again, and see if Misfortune still becomes unresponsive in the kitchen?
(2) What are the specs of your computer (make and model of processor, and amount of RAM your computer has. Also, the make and model of your video card and the amount of video RAM it has. And what platform are you playing the game under--Windows, Mac, or Linux distribution and version).
(3) Have you rebooted your computer since you downloaded the game? If not, please do so now and try to play again. Select the Continue menu pick to resume the game in the Kitchen and see if you can move Misfortune now. If your computer has been rebooted since your game download, you need not do it again, but please do try to use the Continue menu pick and see if you can now move Misfortune in the Kitchen.
(4) Please verify the integrity of the game files under Steam. Instructions for doing this are here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335. Then try to play the game again (use the Continue menu pick to resume the game in the kitchen). Can you move Misfortune now?
(5) What is your input device for the game (keyboard only, mouse + keyboard, or controller)? If you're using a controller, will you please try to use keyboard controls [D] key or [Right Arrow] key to move right and [A] key or [Left Arrow] key to move left. Also if you're using a controller, what is the make and model of your controller? If you're using keyboard only controls, please start up the game, and change the input device options to keyboard + mouse, then Continue the game and try moving Misfortune with the mouse. Let me know if that changes anything.
(6) I know that you've already moved Misfortune from the bedroom to the Living Room and then on to the kitchen, but just so I'm clear, how are you trying to move Misfortune in the kitchen? You can either primary (usually left) click using the mouse, or use the [D] key or the [Right Arrow] key to move Misfortune to the right and the [A] key or the [Left Arrow] key to move her to the left. Please verify that you're using the correct keys to move her.
Once you reply to this message with answers to these questions, I can see what else I can suggest to fix your issue!
Hello!
Here are my save files:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1npHyh66hT8XUQKPXswhD5bi3MWjQpO6A
I cleared registry, english subtitles showed up but still no background in menu:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1889274490
I tried to use your saves too but it doesn't seem to read it at all:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1889284120
After I close the game, it goes back to all "Error" and black background.
Another weird thing Ive noticed is that when I start up the game, it starts in window mode, after I hit New Game is changes to Fullscreen. I can fix all english subtitles being shown as "Error" by changing language to English again, if I don't change the language game seems to skip all text by itself, can't hear narrator or Misfortune speaking either.
My registry seems to be missing some entries too:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/168dkrCEM9MfBLiRL3UhlVzzcq7LJmRU1/view
I'm sorry for being such a trouble.
Thank you so much for all your help and I'm so sorry I took so much of your time! Finally can enjoy the game!
Hello,
Yes, I was just about to reply to you and tell you to check your Timezone. Somehow that key got corrupted in your registry. Glad it's all sorted now! The output_log.txt file you sent me with the save games pointed the problem out easily. I need to remember to ask for that when troubleshooting!
Thanks for your patience and help!
I hope you now can enjoy playing the game.
Hello LadyClaysMinis,
Sorry you're having trouble with unlocking the Dance Master achievement. Although it sounds like you might be using the arrow keys on your keyboard, i can't be sure without specifically asking: Are you using the keyboard arrow keys to trigger the dance moves, or are you using mouse clicks, or a controller?
I found it difficult to unlock this achievement with either the keyboard or mouse, but found it much easier to unlock with a controller. I realize that you may not have access to a controller however.
What are the specs of your computer (make and model of your processor, amount of RAM, make and model of your video card, and the amount of video RAM it has, and on what platform are you playing the game on (Windows, Mac, or distribution and version of Linux)? If playing with a controller, what is the make and model?
We'll do our best to optimize the code in this section of the game. Thanks for your report.
I haven't been able to replicate this issue, but I may not be doing exactly the same thing you are doing when you play. For example:
Did you start the game up and play the entire game in one sitting each time?
Or did you stop playing before reaching the end of the game and then resume with the Continue option of the game at a later time for each playthrough.
Is the game locking up at your attempt to quit the game at the same place in your playthrough both times, or are you trying to exit the game at different places in each playthrough. I can't replicate the issue unless I know what you did, since this is not readily apparent to me.
While it is likely that you have either turned off or restarted your computer at least once since you played the first time, please be sure that you have restarted your computer before trying to play again to see if the issue still happens when you try to exit the game. If you HAVE restarted your computer at least one time since you've experienced this issue, you need not do it again, but if you post again to reply with answers to my questions, please confirm that you've tried this and that it didn't help.
Knowing the specs of your computer would also be helpful to diagnose the issue, although being able to play through to the end of the game twice probably means that your computer meets at least the minimum specs for the game.
Finally, you can try to verify the integrity of the game's files through Steam. If you've never done this, here are some instructions: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335
You need not play through the entire game after verifying the integrity of the game files--just select the Continue menu pick (or load a prior save game), play enough of the game to trigger an autosave (the icon in the lower left corner of the screen that looks like a page being written that appears periodically tells you an autosave update is done), then try to exit the game and see if it still hangs. Please let me know if this helps.
Thanks too for this report.
Hello shelbycyount,
I'm sorry that you're having a bit of trouble getting into the zoo. As you've described where you are in your gameplay, it doesn't sound as though you've encountered a bug in the game. Here are some hints that may get you on your way again:
Have you interacted with ALL the interactable objects in front of the zoo?
To trigger further progress in the game, you MUST interact with at least two objects at the front of the zoo.
One of the two objects IS the window that looks breakable. You said you found that already, and once you find it, the game does not let you interact with that window again until you find the other object that you MUST interact with. I believe that you haven't yet interacted with that particular "second" object which you must examine before gameplay can resume.
The interactable objects in this scene are (from left to right): Phantasmagoria poster, Window that is breakable, trash can, zoo employee at the zoo entrance, missing children posters, and wolf poster. There might be another object in this scene that becomes interactable depending on what you've picked up in your gameplay up until this point. Did you examine/interact with all of these items? I'm guessing not since you have reached a point in your gameplay where there seemingly are no choices. I believe that you have missed the key second object needed to proceed in the game. I suggest that you try each of the objects in this list again. Some of the items (in addition to the window that is breakable) don't let you interact after the first time, but this will not prevent you from finding that key second object and resuming your gameplay.
Once you find that second object, the game will give you another choice to make which will allow you to resume gameplay. The next paragraph will tell you which object you must interact with that you likely haven't interacted with yet so that your gameplay will resume.
If you interact with the missing children posters, this will trigger the continuing gameplay and ask you to make a choice about what to do to get into the zoo. You must interact with both the window that is breakable, and the missing children posters (in either order) to trigger the decision point to proceed in the game.
Please post again if this reply does not help you to proceed in the game.
Thanks for your kind words about the Little Misfortune game. I hope you enjoy the rest of your adventures with Misfortune.
edit: using a mac to play
Hello alj6616,
Sorry you're experiencing freezing issues whenever you get to the first doll in the Little Misfortune game.
Here are some troubleshooting tips you can try to solve the issue. Since you didn't say what troubleshooting you already tried before posting, I am giving you the most basic tips to try first. If you've already done these things, then please post again to let me know and I'll give you additional things to try.
(1) If you haven't rebooted your computer since you downloaded the Little Misfortune game, please do so now and then start the game again. You should be able to select the "Continue" menu pick from the game's menu that appears as you start up the game to resume the game pretty close to where the game has previously freezes for you. If that doesn't help, please go on to the next tip below.
(2) Verify the integrity of the game's files. If you've never done this before, here are the instructions for doing this: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335. Once you've done this, try to play the game again.
If neither of these things help, please reply to this message and let me know a little more about your Mac computer (model of Mac and what Mac OS is it running). If your model of Mac has multiple configurations of processor, RAM and video card options, it would be helpful to know about those too.
I'm sorry for your inconvenience.
