Edit: Also, I still find Sonic R entertaining for nostalgia factor. I played it a lot as a kid.
I never got why everyone has a problem with Sonic taking to a hoverboard or car once in a while anyway; there's no new concepts there. Drift had him in a car on the Game Gear, and he started snowboarding way back in Sonic 3. Aside from precendent, the dude likes speed. I can't imagine he'd be too picky how he goes about getting it, but also levelling the playing field with some form of non-bipedal locomotion makes every character valid as a competitor.
Besides, Transformed is pretty freakin' cool, imo, if a fair bit unforgiving.
I also know that was another version that can launch game in multiplayer mode by tcp/ip, I don't know how to launch it, so here is my msg from other discussion:
"Hey guys, I got link to the official SEGA patch for Sonic R, it's not resolve problems with 705** adress, it allows network play for up to 4 players on an IPX or TCP/IP connection. The page is no longer exist, but wayback machine can open it. Steam blocks links, so go to:
sega dot com > support > sega games > Sonic R [in wayback machine choose 22 Jun 2004]
So, the page includes "sr_net.exe" file wich is different one. So I'd downloaded it and paste in to the root directory of Sonic R. Then I got an error (00468e09). If anybody can disassemble that, it would be cool "
The only song I wasn't a fan of was the infamous one (you know what it is) but the rest were good, even if the lyrics sounded like something from a Saturday morning animation. You could also toggle the lyrics off in the options menu if they bugged you.
I do wish this remake let you switch between the PC graphics and Saturn graphics too.
Explain why
A remake could add more content which would include more than Sonic R's poultry 4 or 5 tracks; I've been playing Metroid Zero Mission recently and I've also beaten AM2R and Black Mesa. They are remakes that add much more to the game, so why complain if they do add that?
If it was just a straight port and not a remake than maybe, but the title of the thread is "Sonic R Remake" so we can assume it's that.
Doom 4 could technically also be considered a remake that adds more but its place in the canon is foggy as it also seems to be both a reboot and a sequel.
Rise of the Triad 2013 too, escpecailly since the old game was a primitive 2.5D FPS running on a modified Wolfenstein 3D engine. Both versions of that game are sort of like Sonic the Hedgehog and Shadow the Hedgehog as an FPS too.

Spoilers for the remake version ahead. Also, the version in the review is an old build and many of the bugs have been fixed. The Steam one is more up to date however, and I have the GOG one.
Also, I like first person platforming in games if it's done well, and ROTT 2013's platforming is done well for the most part, but it takes some getting used to.

Here's a link to Psychedelic Eyeball's LP of the original game.

Remakes don't have to be 100% carbon copies of a game but with better graphics I hope you realize.
Sonic R remake could include all the new characters as well, new stages, new everything but you keep the same exact concept/gameplay/exploration aspects to it as the original.
