Sonic Generations Won't Start Up

Whenever I try to play Sonic Generations a blank pop-up box comes up (the game is still loading and has a black screen) and the only option is to click accept. Once I do so, the game quits. I don't know what is wrong since it used to work but now it doesn't, without any changes being made to my computer. Please help, I've payed for this game when it came out and it pisses me off that I can't play it =/. BTW, uninstall-reinstall, and replacing the cache files won't work. Also tried restarting my computer various times and running on windowed mode.

Here is how i solved it (Windows 8):

1.- Run ConfigurationTool.exe as an Admin (cause it wont save any changes if dont)
2.- Chose your best resolution
3.- Under Visualization Mode chose LETTERBOX
4.- Save changes
5.- Run the game

Yes, I know this is an old post but I am posting here anyways in the event someone picks up this Gem of a game and has the same CTD at startup issue. The resolution is simple

1) navigate to your steam folder and go to steemapps/common/sonic generations.
2) open up the Configurationtool.exe
3) Select the Graphics Configuration tab.
4) Under Resolution, select a lower frequency resolution. (typical is 59Hz or 60Hz) I chose the lowest of 30Hz
5) Click Save and Quit at the bottom
6) Start the Game
7) Win.

Hope this helps someone. Now, for some quality time with my favorite hedgehog and some Chili Dogs.

welp, january 2017 and a new guy comes for the same error.
I've tried everything in this post and it hasn't worked. Running it on a 64bit windows 10

Guys I too had the same problem. I found out if you delete the graphics config file for Sonic generations, and then run the config tool as admin. It will save properly and work.

Ok, so this happened to me with the Demo, and what's causing it is a Catalyst driver update, roll back to the previous version and done.

This is a Really late response, seeing that all of your responses have been from 2013, but setting the audio to default and having the video at 60Hz seemed to help it start for me.
(Edit:) I found out that Generations just doesn't like my headphones, so I disconnect them, then reconnect them once the game has started. It is really dumb that this happens

Ive tried everything here still doesnt work. It only works when I select "None" Under the Audio tab. Someone please help.

if u swaped cards like 1080 or 480 or etc ....u need Delete

Hi all. It's too late maybe, but I found a "solution" for it. I only change all the graphic options going to "CONFIGURE" right clicking the game. Then I change resolution to a random one, like 1280x720 or some one like it, changing the type of screen to "letterbox" and all NONE or LOW graphics. Then I ran Sonic and it works!

After it, I change option per option and proving all. I change all the options to the older one and works well mates. Hope it works to all ! :)

If you did not played this game more than 2 hours or owned it for 14 days you can refund the game, if you don't meet the refund requirement you can still try but I guess you'll know next time :/
