Sonic 1,2,3 are really popular as well but they are just emulated. Sonic CD is popular as well and it not emulated (which is good).
Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 are also popular but didn't age that well. I wouldn't advise to start the series with those games.
People are conflicted on it but for its price tag I think it's worth seeing if you'll like it not.
The Sega Classic Emulations are horrible.
You might as well use the Roms on a different emulator altogether.

The classic 4 on Mega Drive, with Sonic 3 being Sonic 3 Complete
Both Sonic 4 games
Flickes Island Director's Cut, though I recommend the PC and Saturn versions over the Mega Drive original (both of which really need a Steam rerelease with their own Director's Cut mods)
I don't have Lost World yet so I don't know whether to recommend it or not.
