Soinic 2006 PC demo
A fan called Gistix has released a demo of Sonic 2006 for PC. Here's the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3a0vbDboZuM

It seems this PC version is becoming popular, but the only improvement I notice in the trailer is the shorter loading time. So, is it any better than the original? Is it more polished? Does it fix the glitches and bugs from the original? Or is it just a port for PC?

It seems to be "just" a port so far. I don't think there were many bugs in kingdom valley so it's not that easy to judge on that.

Whew... this... is going to end badly...

Why?

Stuff I noticed so far:
- Shorter loading times
- Naturally it doesn't lag itself into oblivion every time there are more than 4 robots on the screen
- Physics are more demolike (in the demo version of the game the homing attack had it's own gravity which is also present here) Sonic also feels heavier here compared to the original game
- Retail version animations are cleverly mixed together with beta animations recovered from the game files resulting in a more fluidly moving Soniczehedgebadger.

Considering the fact how much I appreciate '06 in the first place a remake of this title is like a godsend to me, so I can only hope that the creators of this will develop it as far as they possibly can.

Keeping fingers crossed for the full game, both as a remaster and for it seeing release. The only glitch I could find when I played it was running slowly on walls if you lost momentum when starting a wallrun, but I'd say that's just me nitpicking.

I'm also so used to the original's phyisics from the amount of times I've played it that I wasn't expecting to fly right off a ledge when finishing a light dash -the one after the second wallrun that is- because of the new physics letting me keep momentum from that section meaning you need to brake or quickly turn to avoid sailing through the bridge handrail.

Regarding the demo as a whole, it basically demonstrates the new port in the style of the original 's demo, albeit with the finished game's Kingdom Valley act 1. (e.g. cloudy sky instead of blue)

The demo ends when you reach the goal ring where the end of act eagle usually appears. I do wish we got more levels like Crisis City and the rest of Kingdom Valley, but they will be in the full game anyway.

I hear you mate. I've been hoping for one since 2012 when I first played the original on Xbox 360. I also hope that Shadow PC Remaster gets made too, but Gistix doesn't need to do that one, not while he has Sonic 2006 PC to think about and work on.

Dangit if they make a fully functioning Kingdom Valley for Sonic from beginning to end I'll already be more than satisfied.
I cannot wait to run through that watertunnel section at the end, it was so beautiful to look at. :3

So we can confirm that this demo is more polished than the original game. I know it's very unlikely this fan remaster can be finished, I just hope Sega listen to the fans and decide to make a fixed remaster of Sonic 2006.

Not gonna happen. Not as long as some loudly whinin' crybabies are constantly choking them to death whenever they try making something even remotely interesting.

Just be grateful that Sonic still exists (sarcasm), albeit in a comalike state getting stuck in a neverending vicious cycle of nostalgia and self-deprecating meta humor with the occasionally constantly flowing poorly written comedy lacking any depth whatsoever.

Such a great time to be a Sonic fan nowadays, huh?

This fanwork howewer makes me care. A lot. :3
It brings back some awesome memories from the 2004-2008 time period when Sonic actually was a thing.

Next to the Iblis chase and Wave ocean run, it was one of my favourtie sections in the game. I hope we can get a version of Kingdom Valley with the old demo's blue sky as an option. The upward waterfalls in Act 4 might look even better.

Just like they did when Shadow was made. I remember everyone I knew liking it when I was a kid; I even went to play it at a neighbour's house and we'd comment on what levels were good, what level missions sucked and whatnot, like Bevis and Butthead or James and Mike.

I had no idea that fans hated it until much later, much like how I didn't know about Sonic 2006's reputation until I played it, and I was surprised both times, though I did know about the Elise kiss scene controvesy.

Well that's nerdy hipsterish overexaggerating for ya in a nutshell.

I have no particular problem with the "kiss", Shadow the Hedgehog is STILL my most played Sonic game ever and the problems I have with '06 are strightly technical issues that which I also consider overexaggerated. I completed the darn game almost 100% almost without any difficulty (100%-ed the Sonic and Shadow parts of it).

If I HAD to name anything wrong with Sonic'06 in general it's Silver's gameplay.....so slow....so boring....Silver could have been the guy from The Force Awakens, but sadly he's not. :P

I hope the remake has that, Gistix's one or a SEGA one. Maybe also make Sonic bleed when Mephiles impales him, leaving a ragged fleshy hole decal on his model or at least a bloodstain.

Personally, I've A ranked a few Shadow missions but never 100% as Omega's "fleeing vehicle" mission is near impossible for me. Lethal Highway can be A ranked easilly once you get the Shadow Rifle (by beating the Last Story) however.

Mad Matrix's dark mission is also boring.

Back to 06, I hope the remake also lets Shadow run faster too as well as the others. Maybe also give Blaze some more levels or at least some sections becasue she has good 3D gameplay though never enough of it.

Originally '06 was supposed to have a Free Mode as well, which would have let you to choose a character for the stage you wanted to play, but unfortunately it is unused.

I've actually 100%-ed ShadowTH as well and I considered it fairly easily save for one or two particular missions.
I can certainly see them reimplementing unused/scrapped stuff considering the fact that how Metal Sonic (who was also planned to be bonus unlockable in the original game, just like in SADX) is also planned to be re-implemented into this remake thing.

With that said I just can't wait to play as either Sonic or Shadow in a full Kingdom Valley and/or Crisis City on PC, it'll be SO glorious. xD

Something I'd like to be changed is Shadow's Chaos Blast, since in 2006 its exposive wave is too small so it doesn't have any range at all. A Chaos Blast closer to the one of Shadow's game would be epic. Also Silver should be a bit faster and more efficient against enemies.
