Mario is more of a laid back feel-good tone compared to Sonic's high energy high attitude feel. Mario's strength is in precision platforming, while Sonic's is more about speed. I tend to like Mario characters more but there's basically no lore or story. Mario also tends to fare substantially better in the polish and aging departments, but I could never get into 3D Mario at all (only exception being 3D Land). I really loved select 3D Sonic titles though, and I mostly enjoyed the 2D ones with the exception of 1.
It's just too close for me to call, haha.
Gotta agree on the music, though. Mario's ranges from perfectly serviceable to really good, while Sonic's is consistently incred.
sonic fans: o6: is garbage, unleashed: is awesome, rise of lyric: is garbage, generations: pretty good, lost world to forces: what the heck? frontiers: needs some work but otherwise pretty good [also where is shadow post 06]
what’s your point
And yes, even with masterpieces like 06.
