I've completed every character's story and all that stuff, got the achievements for unlocking them all. But I dont have the "Big the cat achievement" for some reason, I unlocked him and did his story but I never got the achievement for it. what am I missing?

I'm assuming you played the vanilla Steam version? If so, due to an oversight you're going to have to do the following:

1. Optional but highly recommended: Skip everything below and use PkR's SADX Mod Installer (recommended) or BetterSADX (not recommended in 2021), then open the game and go to the Character Select screen. That should do it, but if not try the steps below.
   
2. Start a second save file. You don't need to wipe your progress, as far as I know.
   
3. Play through Emerald Coast and unlock Tails. If using a modded version, keep playing until you clear Casinopolis, then talk to Big. If using the Steam version, you can play a little further if you want but go to the next step as soon as possible, and do not talk to Big or defeat Chaos 6, or you may not get the achievement.
   
4. Play through Tails's story up through Sand Hill. Do not talk to Big after Casinopolis.
   
5. Let the cutscene play out. You'll unlock Big and get the achievement.

Also, my condolences if you did play the buggy abomination of a port of a port of a port of a port that is the vanilla version of this game.

Haven't dipped into the mods myself but I played through most of sonic's story a few years ago and if I remember correctly in order to get the achieves to work properly you have to do a fresh launch of steam and make sure it's the first and only game you launch during the steam session. Sometimes you have to even relaunch after individual achieve unlocks. Very finicky. If you're still having trouble after mods I recommend just using that SAM achievement unlocker to get any broken achieves you miss.

This. For any achievements you have issues with in any Steam game, ever.
