The critic scores for this game are down right disrespectul...
Its wild, you go on Metacritic, see that the critics gave this game a 48/100, A FRICKING FOURTY EIGHT... In what world is that even a logical score? The game is the third most sold Sonic game of all time for a reason. Everyone was loving it back then. Meanwhile, Users gave it a 75/100. At-least the User score is somewhat reasonable...

Then you go check out what the critics actually wrote up about the game, AND EVERY SINGLE REVIEW IS ON THE XBOX 360 OVER A DECADE AFTER THE GAME RELEASED, TALKING HOW THE GAME DIDN'T AGE WELL DURING THE BIGGEST TECHNOLOGICAL BOOM PERIOD IN HISTORY.

What an absolute brainrot basis for critiquing something like a video-game. No normal person is using electronic tech from 1998, and literally a handful of games from that era "aged well," like Paper Mario for example, and those games that did age well only did due to artistic direction or whatever.

Its the same story for the User scores that rag on the game as well... Were these people even conscious when the game released and remember the bad games of that era? Dude, Sonic Adventure has such great themes, sfx, music, game-play. Its short and sweet, to the point. I love the organic voice acting.

Complete lack of perspective to dismiss retro games for not aging well smh...

I cant say I agree there, they are often reasonable... Well, some of the recent years have had obvious bought out reviews on some titles...

...but reviews averaging 48/100, all on a foreign console a decade after release with double the user score is quite absurd. This game was a staple Dreamcast title too... Everyone loved it when it released. Its like giving Ocarina Of Time a 48/100 cuz its clunky and aged.

People like the dreamcast version but a lot of people ♥♥♥♥ on the DX version because how much of a downgrade it is.

I have only stumbled upon a two glitches that set the DX version aside in 9 hours of play. The mirrors in Lost World wont activate, and I cant get my Chao to stop tripping the moment a race starts, on every single race at the exact moment.

Thats besides the point, go look yourself. Metacritic critic reviews do not mention that difference. Its all reviews made from Xbox 360 claiming "This game did not age well" "This game clunky"... Classic Retro dismissal, to treat it like it was made for the Xbox 360 when it was made for the Dreamcast with a DX port a few years later in what? 2002 for the Gamecube?

Im certain there's people in third world countries somewhere, wishing they could just escape their lives in a modern Chao Garden, even if on a phone app, the bare minimum.

I remember the Dreamcast version getting very high scores everywhere like 9/10 back in the day, but the critical opinions stopped being positive very quickly with the release of DX for GameCube, and just kept getting worse each time the game got rereleased. Today, the general public opinion seems to be that it's a very mediocre game, including Sonic fans.

I don't know any other game that started as a top dog and had it's reputation go so downhill and so quickly. Diablo, Final Fantasy VII, etc, are still praised today, but not this one.

For me it's still the same banger.

Sonic Adventure went from a 9.2/10, to like a 5.7/10 for the DX version, at least on GameSpot IIRC.

DX is a graphically nerfed version of the original, except for the character models. And then there's the other jank like no wall collisions, etc.

SA1 is still fun though, yet not exactly the the best of platform games. The scores seem about right.
