disappointment!, but still good
Sonic Adventure DX? Hmph, not bad, I suppose. After all those Dreamcast mods, one would think it's a walk down memory lane, right? Wrong! Still didn't achieve the nostalgia I thought I would. What a disappointment! [Starscream]

Yeah, as enjoyable and fun as I found this game to be, even with all the mods that fix issues with this version, it's lacking in polish and very rough around the edges. What's here is more ambitious than many other 3D platformers back in 1998 but it certainly isn't the kind of experience for everyone. :SuperSonic:

That said, a flawed but memorable game is definitely better than a polished but bland one if you ask me.

Its a good introductory game, which works well since its the first 3D one in the series.

But thats also its biggest “negative” as well, since after your master it (which doesnt take as long), its really basic.

But thats also a positive for some too if they prefer a more relaxing game. No difficult ranks, hub worlds, pretty easy 100%. You can wander around and just have fun.

2 is the opposite. New players often get frustrated since it is a difficulty jump and it expects a lot more. But that difficulty jump allows for a lot more level mechanics, and content increase. If you are willing to get better, which they constantly encourage, it’s a lot more interesting. But you have to have the patience of playing and learning like an arcade game (like Crazy Taxi). The pacing is also the opposite, with no hubs.

Usually, someone will have a clear preference towards one. But both games complement each other

2 isn't necessarily much more difficult than 1 if you're not going for all A-Ranks. But if you are... haaaaaah... your worst enemy becomes that Camera. And the kart stages. Seriously, ♥♥♥♥ whoever came up with the mission 2, 3, and 4 for those stages.

The camera only really became an issue for me in the more open levels like the treasure hunting levels, especially given how most of them have a lot of tight corridors. Everywhere else, the camera is always facing the direction you need to go.

As for difficulty, Adventure 2 is most definitely more challenging even when just going through the main story. A lot of Gamma's levels can be beaten with barely any challenge and are far too short, while Knuckles' levels could be very easily cheesed with that game's hint system. Not to mention how pathetic the character battles were. All of which are made much harder in Adventure 2 as the mechs have a health bar and the hints don't give away the exact location anymore, and character battles require some actual thought and strategy to beat.

Also, Kart Racing Mission 2 (collect 100 rings) was really easy. It's missions 3 (don't hit the walls) and especially 4 (don't hit other cars) that gave me a hard time. :mafia:

Camera is fine. Its fully automatic, for 2/3 of all character stages. Unless you're trying to fight against it and try turning it, but the game doesn't want you to do that and there's no real reason to do that.

It becomes less fixed for Knuckles/Rouge, and at that point you can rotate it around pretty easily and stages are wide enough for it to not get stuck most of the time. (just don't use the alternate first-person camera rotate, like Heroes, that option is almost completely pointless)

I do think you are underestimating just how much more difficult 2 is from 1. Which probably just comes from already playing it for years. I can say its easy too after 100% it twice, but getting to that point took a lot more learning. Its a lot more possible for a new player to get multiple Game Overs due to levels just being more difficult and expecting more. A first run will be filled with E ranks, and near level wins with one life left depending on how fast someone learns.

Also Biolizard is one of the more difficult bosses in the series. Fun and more complex than most, but it can be a roadblock.

Eh what do you expect? Sega are as lazy as everyone else. DX was an abysmal port we hated back then, and then because they deleted the damn source code to the DC one, this is all we have now. Absolute mess but people continue to fund sega and indeed nintendo, no matter how much you are bent over and seen too XD

"it'd be funny if it wasn't so pathetic.................................... OH what the hell, I'll laugh anyway. AHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!"

^Mods.

Without mods the HD version of DX is the worst version.

With mods, it’s probably the best. Especially since you can mix and match.

Like keep the superior DX models, but remove the bright lighting they have and keep DC textures.

GameCube DX is fine. A lot of the issues that DX is known for having is only really problematic on every version that came after it.

No that is still bad bud, all those problems stem from that version. A lot of the physics in the game are messed up like the first level's waving bridge, a lot of textures look lower quality, the shadows/lighting effets look worse and these are ALL from the GC version lol and EVERYTHING since. I actually thought that was well known? It's in many youtube videos that even the GC DX is inferior and I should know... I own both the UK and US copies.... don't rightly remember how I ended up with the U.S. one :S lol.

That being said, the Dreamcast version has its own host of issues as well. It's the only version that runs at 30FPS whereas every other version runs at 60FPS (cutscenes are still at 30) and does not let you skip any cutscene in the game. 60FPS and skippable cutscenes on GameCube are huge improvements over the original game, if you ask me. :SonicManiaItemBox:

The 2004 PC version introduced new glitches and other issues that were not present in the GameCube version, such as the ugly Arial subtitle font, even more lighting problems, removal of water effects and a wall clip right before Emerald Coast's second loop leading up to the whale chase. This one in particular is interesting, because I've seen YouTube videos of players clipping through that wall on GameCube but could not for the life of me trigger it myself on GameCube, whereas I could do so very easily on the 2004 PC (unmodded) and PS3 versions.

Game still has far more soul than SA2. Zipping through levels with the spin dash and finding new skips to try feels far more gratifying than the aforementioned sequel's "freeform" scoring system and hallway level speed stages.
