I Am Suppose To Go To Tails Workshop But Nothing Happens

I defeated Robotnic and then he stole a chaos emerald from tails. I walked into some doors into what I presume is Tails Lab, but nothing happens. I explore the entire island but cant find out what to do, please help!

There should be a little stone outside just in front of Tails' workshop that you can pick up by standing next to it and pressing B. You can carry that stone to a little cave with wind coming out of it with a pedestal to put the stone on. Put it down, and the wind will become powerful enough to take you to Windy Valley.

Don't worry, this had me stumped the first time around as well.
