Power outage followed by game over? What to do?
I just had a game over in my first play through through the game. I was in easy territory, on my second deck and was building the boarding hangar.

All of the sudden I had one red blip on the radar for like half a minute. Since I couldn't find it right away on my level, I was about to go down to the lower deck. I then realized there was a maintenance power shutdown which basically disabled my lift (the enemy really wasn't long on my radar). So how can I descent to the second deck? I was basically trapped and not able to help with anything. I then noticed a corridor piece missing next to the bridge, which I replaced. Near it was a corridor piece with a fire icon on it which shortly after disappeared as well, resulting in a game over.

That basically killed my play through within of like 3 minutes.. Can someone what happened there and how I can prevent that in the future?

That first try of mine actually stretched out to almost 6 hours, I was past all those tutorial stuff already at that point.

Basically I had no idea what exactly was happening at that point and the event kinda left me confused. That's why I wanted to know what I can do there in the future. It felt like all I could do at that point was just watching my demise on the top deck without any options.

I think I actually recorded that:

First off I made a mistake, I read first run and killed my play through within of like 3 minutes and thought you were saying you died in the first three minutes, my bad.

Second from watching the stream you linked I can tell you what happened, I went back in the stream and at 5h 32m 55s you can see at the bottom of the screen (under the controls) a transport bot put a resource in a deposit and an enemy spawns, it manages to make it underneath the floor at which point only you could stop it (or the tiny security robot designed to go under the floors if you have one), it then spends the next five minutes running around attacking power nodes while you're on the map/build screen (don't know if you didn't see it or you did but ignored it), eventually it caused enough damage that hallways and rooms(?) started to breakdown and explode, at some point it either destroyed or disconnected a reactor which made it so you didn't have enough power and shut your entire ship down which caused it to eventually explode.

In the future you need to babysit the resources from a planet when they are put in both the deposits and the refinery so that you can kill anything that's hiding inside the boxes. Or if you don't want to do that you could do what I do and place turrets in the refinery and the hallways just outside the deposits so that all aliens get blasted soon after they pop out of the boxes. By the way, everything I just typed also applies to the hanger and tractor beam as well.

The red dot was an alien creature that most likely came on board during the Tractor Beam tutorial, it went under the floor and attacked the power node of the lift and corridors, when more then half of the power nodes in a room are destroyed the room starts to breakdown and eventually explodes (corridors and lifts only have one power node).

I think you might have been able to delete the lift and rebuild it to get down, at the very least you could've just waited for the lift to explode and then rebuild it instantly with no penalty since it takes like five to ten seconds for rooms to start breaking down from no power or broken power nodes and lifts only cost a single unit of power to build.

It is not possible to destruct powered down modules.

Additional important info: Modules also start to breakdown when they are not connected to the bridge.

A similar thing happened to me during the tutorial, things can happen so fast if there's a power outage, and if you happen to be trapped in the wrong section then I don't know what one could do. Probably build an alternate connecting route back to the bridge very quickly? That is assuming you have the resources and time available.

One thing I have noticed is that if I am standing in a corridor and I delete an adjacent room then it'll put me on the bridge, bit of an immersion breaker but could be a way to get out of a pickle.

One strategy could be to destroy the module containing the blip then rebuild it, might lose a clone and whatever else was in there at the time (I've never tried it), or at least isolate that section so that it will naturally just self-destruct. Stops the spread at least.

Is there any chance we could get ladders as a place able part of the maintenance tunnels in the event that power goes out? Star Trek style crouching in the jefferies tubes is cool already, but the ladders are missing :)

don't know if you didn't see it or you did but ignored it
Yea I didn't see it. Thanks for the clarification. I noticed the spawning of spores/enemies from gathered resources. In my second play through right now I completely isolated every station that has contact with the outside and put up tons of security down there (sentries, force fields, resilient workers and airlocks). My second run looks far better so far and I didn't need to rearrange the pre-existing layout from the tutorial either.
