Free Rider Mode
My initial excitement in unlocking my first Free Rider track quickly turned into that of frustration when realising it was just Explorer Mode minus the checkpoints. If anything Expert Ride should have you taking the whole trail without sustaining a single crash along the way but I'll digress that last point.

I was really looking forward to a true exploratory mode & hoping that can still happen. Would it be so difficult to have a free roam mode where you appear back at the closest bit of track you were on after taking a fall or slamming into a rock. That & the ability to bring up a/the map & quick select one of the pre-designated checkpoints already in the game to quickly get around & select spots.

While absolutely warranted & well designed in context with the rest of the game, in & of itself Explorer Mode is also frustrating as it holds you back from true free riding in that the checkpoints are actively holding you back by pulling you back every time you take a fall. it's feels very restrictive in that way.

No matter though Explorer Mode is designed & well implemented as is serves a very specific purpose in the game & dose it naturally so.

Free Rider I'm finding does nothing to Improve or build on the experience of the game. There's literally nothing In FR I can't do in any other mode, especially Explorer.

So I'd like to purpose something here. Add a toggle to Free Rider Mode. The Toggle Activates or Deactivates Checkpoints with Night Mode unlock still in place.

Re purpose Explorer as a true free roam exploratory mode. Maybe that just means doubling or tripping checkpoints, that said perhaps something like flag points or ribbons attached to the terrain to mark re-spawn points would be more aesthetically pleasing for such a more. Better yet as previously suggested, destining it so that you appear back at the closest bit of track you were on after taking a fall or slamming into a rock. That & the ability to bring up a/the map & quick select one of the pre-designated checkpoints already in the game to quickly get around & select spots.

Devs, If there's an ethos already in place for things as they are, design wise well that's truly fine, maybe there's a post where you've expressed as mush elaborating on the project's focus and goals, I wouldn't mind reading that. If however you're open minded about new idea's well I wouldn't mind your thoughts on a truly free roaming exploratory mode.

Regards, a hopeful fan.

Well ... it is not an explorer mode - but a "free" ride; as in a time trial not restricted by checkpoints. It's the only mode where you can take the most extreme shortcuts to the finish line.
Try the same with checkpoints and the finish line will just tell you "checkpoint missed".
(so it's not just the challenge of not crashing - it's also allowing you to take routes that are not otherwise possible)

For now just use the normal mode with checkpoints to explore. Often times you cannot easily ride back up anyway - so the checkpoints are good enough for exploring the area around them. (and you might be surprised how close together some of them already are, as you discover shortcuts between them)

It'd be really nice if there was a casual/explorer mode with no checkpoints where you can ride freely and if you crash are taken back to the closest possible spot before crashing instead of the last checkpoint or the start of the run.

^^ Yes this right here. ^^ & to think it took me 8 paragraphs to make the same point.
