I go to the gate but it doesn't open, basically I'm stuck with the game here.

Oh man, I'm play on Linux with Proton. Thanks for your comment, everything seem clear now. Oh no man, I don't want to refund, I will try the unofficial fix.

Can you send me a save to try it with mfplat script?
nope.js Dec 6, 2019 @ 5:08am
What is it and how I can send you? Will it helps?

This is the unofficial solution and I want to try it :) You can upload the save on some file hosting site.

Are you playing on Linux through Steam Play/Proton?

I'm stuck, too. It seems this is a Media Foundation problem. I checked a YouTube game play video and there should be a cutscene playing. After the cutscene, that game will continue to a different level. Fast forward to 31:24 of the YouTube video below to see what I'm saying.

https://youtu.be/MWfaj-V8Ajo

The game's cutscene video files is in MP4 format and is currently not supported by Proton / Wine. It also affects other games such as Resident Evil 2 Remake and Darksiders Warmastered Edition.

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1464

The Media Foundation problem is more of a legal issue rather than a technical one. There is an unofficial fix for it which you can download from the internet. Valve cannot include it with Proton because Microsoft can sue them if they do.

I think I'll refund this game for now and hope that Airship Syndicate will also release a Linux version like what they did to Battle Chasers: Nightwar.

Thanks for this solution! We’re sorry you’ve decided to refund the game, but we understand; if THQ decides a Linux version is in high enough demand, they’ll push to release one, so make sure to let anyone else know who wants the game released on Linux native to email/tweet THQ letting them know you want it.

Wait, the publisher decides whether to support Linux or not?

Who decided Linux support for Battle Chasers: Nightwar?

Anyway, just a question, why use videos for cutscenes instead of actual game cutscenes? Making stuff easier for devs?

On Battle Chasers, we made the promise during Kickstarter to support Linux on release, and THQ Nordic agreed to this on partnering with us. With Darksiders Genesis, the decision of which platforms to support has been up to THQ.

As for why to use video cutscenes, our level design is set up for our isometric camera and would be restrictive to anyone trying to make an in game cutscene. We also aren't big enough to have a cinematics department! We need to work with partners we trust to make something high quality.
Plus, we love Ludolullabi's work! :)

There's no need for refund. The game doesn't hang with the unofficial mfplat patch:

Can you just patch the game so that the story would progress even if cutscenes won't play? Is that too much to ask?

I still haven't refunded the game.

Thanks for that heads up; we did program the game to continue even if cutscenes don't play for exactly this reason, but it seems like maybe this fix isn't currently all encompassing. We'll look into it ASAP!

The whole point of Steam Play is to make playing Windows games on Linux as easy as possible. Just click INTSTALL then PLAY.

It is extremely easy and it takes no more than 10 seconds...

Just as a heads up, guys: we've confirmed this bug is occurring if videos fail to play regardless of your platform, and we're getting a fix in for the next patch! We'd put in a fix on all the videos, but it looks like that was accidentally removed at some point.

Thanks a lot for your feedback and patience. We won't be able to get videos working on Linux next patch, but you'll be able to continue past this.

Wow. Thanks :)

I appreciate that and I'm sure other Linux users would be happy about that.

Just install mfplat and the videos should work on Linux.

Hi Andres and thanks for sharing this info with us.

Honestly I can't imagine how would THQ suddenly start asking to add Linux support. Usually think flow of the publisher is solely based on the business profit. And it is extremely hard to calculate benefits of adding some platform, especially if you are not targeting it in first place.

For instance, I purchased the Battle Chasers only because it has Linux support. Still playing it on Windows because of other reasons, but otherwise I would simply buy and play something else. And if you would release Darksiders for Linux I would definitely consider purchase some merch from you or find other ways to support your work.

I think that such initiative to add Linux platform should begin not from the top (publisher with business purposes), but from the bottom (you, developers), motivated by personal will and respect to the community.

Good point.

Andres, have you tried asking THQ about releasing a Linux version for Darksiders Genesis?

I would happily re-buy Darksiders Genesis then gift it to my fellow Linux gamers if you will release a Linux version.

Thanks Andres. I tried the whole day to install KVM to install Windows on a VM on my Linux work station to get the game works, but I haven't done yet, lol, I'm back here and seeing that your team will try to fix it ASAP. Thank you again.
And when we have the patch? I can stop playing while waiting.
