Medium is a bit more (Merc and engenier)
Heavy is much more weight and prot. (Miner)
Over the longer time the costs are all the same, all damage have to be repaired.
Faction armor is the best-in-slot armor in the game. It is incomparable to Chitin equpment. Only clan owners and high ranking clan members can purchase the armor, so you will have to request someone who is in such a position in a clan to purchase the armor for you and pay them.
All classes can wear all armor except heavy armor, provided they have invested adequate character parameters. Only miners can wear heavy armor. Hunters and engineers can wear medium armor if they have the stats.
There also exists factionless armor, which is the best in slot armor for those who have chosen not to join a faction. This armor is called High Tech armor. It can be obtained through the Coast, if I recall correctly. It is worse than faction armor, but slightly better than chitin. However, when it is obtained, its condition is always too low to repair with regular repair kits or through the NPCs who repair equipment. It must be repaired with a Master Repair kit, which is purchased for 150 tokens in the token shop. This should definitely be changed, but if you wish to use High Tech armor you will either need a master repair kit or many, many sets of the armor because they can be worn until they break, and cannot be repaired without the repair kit.
