Campfire

I'm new to the game but I am questioning one thing right now. Items such as the Campfire where you have to put it down, what is the point in using it if you don't have a safe place to put it and come back to use it every once in a while?

Your campfire is open to other players they can take/steal your items in it
if u dont put wood or coal in fire it will go out in 5 mins
use it as a one time respawn in battles
or to cook meats/distill dirty water
use it to make lead bars
and if u stand next to it u regen your health
