is wood very rare or bugged somehow?

There is no tree you can chop, unfortunately. Firewood can be found easily in MTE (where the watcher/invisible crab things are) on the east side near the rails. Looks like a bundle of sticks.

These are fixed spots on the game. As soon as you can find some wood, you can find the next time you do go there

Reduce your textures if you have trouble looking for wood. You have two kinds (big dark logs or white branches grouped)
