Some newbie tips that I learned from the zone life struggle
So, after dying a few gruesome deaths, being stuck in a floor, buying AP ammo and not FMJ for 50-100% more cost, and a few other things... I figured I'd start a compilation of things I learned for the new guys, LOL.

1.) L is your flashlight/"torch".

2.) Found out that placing a fire (5 firewood and a match; drag on top of one another in your inventory) acts as a 1-time use safe zone spawn. So if you die, you'll come back to your fire.

3.) The more you're carrything, the more % of items you'll drop

4.) DON'T SELL your rat hides, amanitas, etc at the starter zone! You will need 8-10 of each for quests.

5.) After doing your first few quests, and are level 3, and you have 300+ gold (especially after selling rotten meat, etc.) --- Sell your makarov for around 200, and buy something like the TT - which is a semiautomatic handgun that fires 7.62.

6.) You can drag a bandage to numbers 5-8 to use it on the fly without having to right click it or assign it to a key.

7.) Extra chamomile, mushrooms, etc. post-starter quest can be turned in to the respective NPC (like chamomile to the doctor) for 1 XP / 1 Coin each. Rather than 0.4-0.7 each at different vendors.

8.) When assigned the quest for "Watchers"; USE YOUR FLASHLIGHT. They are invisible, hurt, and can be seen as a blur when a light is shined on them. You'll thank me later.

9.) Water poisoning doesn't do much in the newbie zone. If you get low on water, fill a bottle at the well (as notated by the water droplet on your map). Drink 2-3 to get full. You'll be poisoned for several seconds but only lose about 1/8 of your health. Full thirst is a worthy trade! :P

10.) Climbing on a car or street pole (even if shift jumping) is the ultimate way to save your♥♥♥♥♥ I've dodged a few watchers, and wild dogs that have been chasing me just by hopping on a box, car, or pole. Their pathfinding gets obscured.

11.) Complete (similar-level-requirement) quests around the same time. If you don't, and move on too far in one direction, you will wind up going to a camp, collecting all sorts of stuff, turning in the quest, and then (after you complete the level 2 quest you ignored, for example) - you now have to walk ALL the way back to where you just were, to kill 5 enemies.

12.) Don't cook boar meat unless you really need to! I made the mistake of cooking 7 boar meat, and then found out that you need 10 for another quest. Bank it if you have to; it'll save you time later. EDIT: SON OF A ♥♥♥♥♥. Apparently, you need the boar hides, too.

13.) There is a quest called "Lost Pistol"; you can find it sitting next to a little pole-like grave. However, it will not show up unless the quest is set as your MAIN active quest. Just a tip to save you some time in the future.

14.) Southeast of "Railway Bridge" and "The Settlement" ("Engineering"), there is a little spot on the map called the "Minaevskaya Mine"; although there is no dome shield here or any indication -this is actuallly a protected area just like the starter zone. There is no PVP, there is a merchant to sell some junk to, and even a storage vendor (but it's 1000 for a box!) - just a tip in case you're ever lost down here and need a place to heal and sell.

15.) The field between grid G9-H9 has some radioactive pockets. Be immensely careful cutting through here. I did, and was poisoned by ratiation for 3 minutes and wound up dying. My vaccines for radiation did not even remove all of it. If you do go through, come prepared with antidote.

will be updating more as I die and learn the ways of the cheeki breeki

Thank you! I've added a few more, too. From invisible quest items that are only there when the quest is set as your MAIN active, to silly "i'm just gonna cook all my food now" mistakes.

I know how frustrated I was when I made some of these errors. So good to know from the get-go!

I have! If you go to the side of the village with the two military-looking hangars and stuff, there is a house just before you leave town on that side (on the right).

It has two shipping large containers in the yard. He is between those.

They look like this:

Is mining profitable?

EDIT: Yes it is, especially with the quests...

Make sure you got plenty of ammo and medkits, however... Also some minerals are harder to find.

lol definitely. I made a few thousand off of selling metal scraps. Of course, I haven't tried to turn them into iron bars w/ coal and check their value then. If it's anything like cooking, the value should go up the further they are processed.

I will be adding some aswell:

-Cook meat before you sell it, hearts and types of meat will always sell for more cooked.

-Dont let your armour and weapons go to low on durability or you will not be able to repair it.

-Save your bottles, fill with dirty water, then distill it on a campfire, then you can sell, use or make tea and other stuff with it.

-When dealing with higher level creatures like belch bogs, use highest ap rounds you have while they are approaching you, then switch to high damage weapon you have with hp bullets as ap rounds would have already shred creatures armour.

-Early on grab all stuff you can find around that isnt too heavy, every tokens early on help alot.

-Quests can carry you up to level 10ish and give you enough tokens to buy gear and weapons

Don't be afraid to use the "Squirrel" (.22 LR) as a Hunter. .22 is the cheapest ammo at the start (4 bullets for 1 gold). Lower level enemies around Solnecheny (and it's outskirts) can be dropped with 5-8 rounds tops and thats if you're inaccurate.

Hunters class-skills improve how much they can acquire off animals; their pistol and rifle (I'm assuming refers to the Squirrel and SKS) damage and accuracy as well

Mercenaries excel w/ assault rifles and pistols instead.

Miner focus on pistols and shotguns, can carry alot and are beefy
Engi uses sub and explosives, also have devices that serve as heal and respawn point.
hunter is the sniper of the game
Mercenary is something allround with focus on assault rifles
