Advice for an Optional Boss
I've been butting heads with Mr. Cat for a while now. Everyone in my party is currently about Lvl. 30, but the way the fight works makes me feel that I'm still heinously underlevelled. I can get the first half of his health bar just fine, but as soon as the second phase starts everything just falls apart for me. I can't keep up with the insta-kills and devastating aoe attacks. Has anyone else managed to take him down at about the same level, or am I best off coming back in 5-10 levels so I can just brute force him pretty much?

(As a side note, Mr. Cat's area is easily my favorite Nightmare Sequence. It's legitimately the most unsettling area I've experienced so far, although I feel Mr. Cat himself is pretty lackluster as the "payoff" personally.)

You're best to come back later, I'd recommend dropping in at around level 40 or 50. (you get that high from normal story progression)

I will say try to take him down as soon as you're able to, because you get a really good piece of equipment for Helga that will really help you out late-game.

update: i beat it at level 35 by taking turning jimmy into a glass cannon and taking out 2/3 of its health with focus+rampage B)

also, umm, that conclusion...hah..........

you'll find that the analysis + rampage is a pretty decent strategy for most of the game lmao. You'll get something that'll make that combo even better later on, so look forward to that.

That boss just destroyed me a couple of times, but i finally beat it. My team is around level 35. One of the hardest boss i found on the game. I equipped anti-sleep trinkets on every character except Helga and Jimmy (Helga is inmune, and for Jimmy i equipped the bird passive skill, so i can keep some good trinkets on him). Then i equipped the Rad Gauntlet (not sure if that its name) on Helga. It makes the agility go up to 300, and since she is the healer of the group, i find it very useful. First phase of the boss i slowed him with the slime to take even more advantage (Mr Cat has a crazy high agility), and tried to startle him every turn he is going to attack, since all the battle goes: no attack, attack, no attack etc... And the second phase is crazy... he attacks every turn, but if you are lucky he is going to try to put to sleep to your team, which is useless with the trinkets, and you can destroy him. Called shot+mag combo+analisis makes around 1500 damage, so it is definetly a key to win. And pray if he is going to do tremor...

how do you get to this dungeon??

It is the cave on the unbreakable bridge. You only need to advance in the story enough and go to talk with the mouse family in Smile. Eventually a new dialogue should trigger.
