We can't fix this, because it's not related with Thief Simulator
I see a lot of people angry and/or in disbelieve that Citrix<->Unity could be the culprit(s) here...
or
to name a few.
I can sadly say that this IS the case for multiple games made with Unity. Look here, more of the same problems (and some temp workarounds):
- Paradox talking about this problem: https://support.paradoxplaza.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019138814-Citrix-Workspace-and-Unity-games
- reddit user in /r/citrix asks about this problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/Citrix/comments/gwtye9/question_on_citrix_causing_unity_crash_possible/
- citrix forum talking about this problem (with comment that Hollow Knight isn't working anymore: https://discussions.citrix.com/topic/409156-citirix-is-crashing-games-compiled-with-the-unity-game-engine/
- some more steam forums: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/3570700856112522196/

It WASN'T something the game devs could fix as Unity is an engine they are using and it would be pretty hard for them to change engines. This was something Unity (or Citrix) should be fixing.
But.. as you can see I said "wasn't", this is because the problem was logged on the Unity forum here: https://forum.unity.com/threads/problem-with-citrix-workspace.589342/
and here: https://forum.unity.com/threads/solved-crash-when-running-any-unity-application.599953/
And there was a issuetracker made for the bug:
https://issuetracker.unity3d.com/issues/unity-2018-dot-2-7f1-windows-standalone-crash-on-first-run-due-to-unityplayer-dot-dll-access-violation?_ga=2.159185529.2110027076.1543255740-698773795.1529019021
Which states it is now FIXED. The devs need to move their project to a newer version of Unity with the fix and then create a new build (as stated in before mentioned Unity forum posts).
I took the liberty to look into the game files for this game and look for the Unity version that's used. I'm seeing that this game is using Unity build version 2017.2.1f1, the issuetracker states that the issue is fixed in the following versions: 2017.4.16f1, 2018.2.17f1, 2018.3.0b9 and 2019.1.0a6
So this:
Should be (as of the end of 2018) not true!
So please Noble Muffins, update your engine and make a new build of your game(s)!
And also, as a gamedev, if you ever find a bug in the engine you're using, for the love of all games and your customers, submit a bug report!
Well said. Thanks a lot for all your research and links. They're still selling this game so they should continue to support it. I just purchased this game and I think I'm going to request a refund. SMH.
after a few. My temps are good, no issues there, etc. Do you need to see my crash and error logs? What's the best method to post those?
Update: Figured out the crashes had to do with Hardware-Virtualization in my Avast. No more crashes.
Download latest Citrix and install from admin command prompt like this:
CitrixWorkspaceApp.exe ADDLOCAL=ReceiverInside,ICA_Client,AM,SELFSERVICE,DesktopViewer,Flash,Vd3d,WebHelper,BrowserEngine
