[BUG] FNIX Outpost Sabotage broken. Guns are indestructible.
I wasted SO much ammo on this mission.

So I went to do this, and at first I was confused. I thought it would be like taking a control point; blast through some walls, kill the central bit, done. When I saw the walls, I spent TONS of time trying to break in, only to find the walls were unable to be damaged.

Next were the guns. I lay on my belly behind a tree, sniping at them and saw them get broken. Except they WEREN'T broken somehow, and simply continued to shoot, even after the guns had toppled to the ground. And this was only for SOME of the guns, as others behaved normally and stopped shooting once broken.

So I finally found the way in and just ran inside, getting under the gun so I wouldn't be killed instantly. I found the door, opened it, and shut down the base. No more guns, right?! WRONG!!! The guns were fine still. Somehow. And continued shooting me. I even ran back out and tried a few rockets on the central one (which was the main issue) without any effect, even though said rockets destroyed the central computer, which *should* be what's controlling the guns.

So now it's asking me to do some platforming... except the main, central gun is still working, so it's shooting me as I try to navigate the jumps and ramps. At this point, I'm wondering who came up with this sadistic death trap of a puzzle.

Is this how it's SUPPOSED to be? Me running face first into an enemy base armed with unstoppable turrets while trying to pretend I'm Wolverine and can just regenerate all the damage? I easily wasted 15 rockets and hundreds of rounds of ammo trying to figure this place out, much less complete it. And to top it all off? The damned turret was STILL SHOOTING ME after the mission was 'completed'!

Why did you do this? Please change it, or fix it, or explain it. You limit my resource capacities, then force me to dump tons of them into something like this? At least add something to the first mission like this explain how it works differently from a control point so players know not to rely only on their weapons and that it's going to cost them a lot of resources. I came away from completing this feeling like I got scammed at a casino or something.

'Try your luck! Win a prize! PSYCHE!!! The only prize is pain and disappointment!'

When I last tried this back in a campaign started after Feb 2023 Fresh and New (played last in Dec 2023), I CAN CONFIRM that FNIX OUTPOSTS were not sabotagable.

NOTE -- PROBABLY NEED A QUEST LINE COMPLETED TO DESTROY FNIX OUTPOSTS
(MAYBE NOT ALL STRUCTURE IN AN OUTPOST CAN BE DESTROYED, BUGGY IN PAST)
SEE LATER BELOW WHERE I DESCRIBE WHAT I RECALL

HOWEVER that may have changed, as there have been some bug reports and patches since DEC 2023 that did address that when I looked a few days ago, but not completely fixed it per one Bug Report, possibly still visible on Steam.

FNIX OUTPOSTS are not CONTROL POINT BASES such as you normally Assault/Defend/Capture. They have likely a QUEST STORYLINE that I was beginning to un-earth late in my old campaign.

One of the videos I was looking at during my review of various YouTubers did MENTION that SOME FNIX OUTPOST STRUCTURES BECOME DESTRUCTIBLE AFTER THE APPROPRIATE MISSIONS OR MISSION LINE.

I believe the Story about it BEGINS IN THE SOUTH COAST. You may find some Notes by a person, who became interested in tracking the LARGE CONDUIT that hooks up the various FNIX OUTPOSTS you first find in the SOUTH COAST, which is SW of the FARMLANDS REGION. I don't recall exactly how it comes about.

But, I know there are several FNIX OUTPOSTS, which are placed story structures, not far from the place where you do a MISSION to TAKE OUT SOME ARTILLERY GUNS in that SOUTH COAST REGION, where there are several locations with FORT in the name.

Zifirch just posted a similar bug report and made a video of it.

Seems he can damage parts of the gun, so that the guns fall off, but that it still fires. So they either still need the Story Quest, but show damage before OR more likely they are meant to be damaged completely, but are still firing.

Be interested on whether you both had a Story Quest or MIssion to destroy FNIX OUTPOSTS. As they were not destructible, at least mostly, in the past before it.

Sounds like a bug though.

The quest name is in the title: 'FNIX Outpost Sabotage' is the quest name. I had this mission selected as active while running it, It's considered a side quest.

After doing this mission, I went on to take down two other Otuposts, shown as red, pointy hexagons on the map and those were able to be destroyed completely. After, they turned into those container trucks you can build bases around.

This is not part of the main quest to destroy the big FNIX gun. I think I know what structures you're talking about. Those are *also* not able to be fully destroyed. This one was for the exact mission 'FNIX Outpost Sabotage', which is a side mission.

Thanks on the replies, Gargoyle Girl -- especially about it not being the same thing. My guess is that I either need to get to a certain Main Mission to then get these Side Missions, which is not uncommon in Gen Zero, or maybe now they generate when you are near one automatically. This might be ported from the older online Tasks for more active play goals.

Turned into Container Trucks like at the Control Points, wow. Ok, that is very interesting. Intended or not, that definitely seems a new approach.

Yeah, lol. When you attack a destructible FNIX base and completely defeat it, there is a pile of resources and such left behind. If you claim that spot, it converts it to a container truck, complete with communicators and sandbags and such that acts as the 'center' of the new base. You can then construct your walls and other defenses around it, and once in a while run defense missions from your new base to protect the 'center'. If they destroy it, you lose the base, but keeping it earns you some points on the Experimental schematics page. So far I've only run a couple of medium level defense missions and mostly easy ones, since I play solo a lot. It gets pretty tough when you're by yourself and there's swarms of them coming from all sides, but it's still good fun.

Very nice. So pretty much become like Control Points as well. And you even get the Schematics Points from the Assault or Defense. That's great.

Oh, by the way, I just found out that I can also THROW MEDIUM EMPs, which I had tried before, but somehow I goofed it up. So, although they don't show a DEPLOY (which seems you can't directly do either), you can equip them to the Weapon Wheel, and then throw them. So, I have to correct what I said in that other thread, I had never succeeded before with MEDIUMs.

And they throw at least 5 yards, only tried it within a base, and it was used up. They might throw as far as even a Small EMP.

Anyway, so you can either recycle them, as the Min Batch Size is 1, or keep a few to use.

And, those other SMALL EMPs, yep they EVEN SHUT DOWN PROTOTYPE TANKS during my testing, for about 6-7 total seconds. Probably the MEDIUM EMPS just have a larger EMP BLAST radius. But I'll try down the road one, and see if it shuts them down longer.

This is good to know, thanks. I always thought they were just useless.
