The damage output of shotgun and SMG is ridiculous IMO. And as it doesn't use ammo (I've put more than 100 rockets on my dog to realise it doesn't use it), rockets seem the best to use.
Rocket launcher can instantly or almost kill Apoc Runner in single shot, even better if there are multiple enemies close to each other like in lv3 Base Assault.
Plus companion rocket launcher can stagger Tank.
The SMG has enough damage to deal with hunters with relative ease, although only one target at a time, leaving the companion exposed to other threats.
The shotgun I found to be completely useless imo, way too low fire rate, and accuracy could also be improved. It could become useful if they changed it to a semi-automatic version; high damage in a short burst but with a longer reload time.
I tried smg, but fastly abandonned, as my dog never killed anything with that in guerilla.
Maybe I didn't push the test far enough.
And agreed for shotgun. Actually feels like the worst. I used it for a while without any success.
Though I'm not sure if difficulty setting would affect companion. But yea, DLC armor especially explosive resist one is too overpowered when compared with other armors since it's highly resist to bullet & immune to most of explosive attacks.
I like my runner to be a spotter and then it carries the rocket launcher. But I use the runner as over watch after a big battle and keeps an eye out for incoming machines while I loot. Since the rocket launcher has the longest range, my runner can start fighting while I continue to loot machines.
Though often can be solved by throwing flare or radio to fix their pathfinder, who knows they might end up walking around whole mountain/hill to reach other side of my base.
