Base Defense, a second look.
Putting the resource balance completely aside and just looking at the game play of the base defense, I kind of like it and I kind of don't.

I always built a defendable position at my control points, so I would always be prepared for a base defense, since it seemed pretty random on which control point was chosen within a region. But now they are harder and my bases get destroyed.

After some testing, I decided to destroy all my control points for the resources and just focus everything into three control points for the three new build items. Which was kind of fun. I actually built a nice big defense point that I can now defend and I like all the robots with the new hard mode.

Cool, I'm liking that, but now I just play these three control points and never visit the other ones now. So, that sucks.

Veterans should not have any problems about base building as they already have bases before the Showdown and they dismantle them for reuse anywhere they choose. I also have only three: Phosphorus base = Tyloveden, Forest regions; Ethanol base = Broangen, Farmlands; Alloy Base = Hammargardient, South Coast.

But I still don't want to be tied-up into repeating base defense as the only way to earn the new materials. The existing "loot table" mechanics should have been used as another means, despite the bugs, to get the resources.
Other than the first resistance base, I have yet to build a base. Seems I will be forced to build them now. Which means I need to play with all the walls and base defense weapons that I bought and never even read up on what they do. :dazed_yeti:

I am going to be a novice again. :happy_yeti:
Yes SG, that is the only way or wait for what the hotfix would bring.

I had 2 fully build bases before the Showdown update but hurriedly built 5 more fully completed base when I saw Don'GetPlayed post about building as many base possible before the Showdown update roll in. I only had a few hours remaining to do it.
Besides the 3 for resources, it's handy to choose the rest of the points for convenient safehouse locations and potentially defense structures to bait nearby mobs into if you really want since repairs are now free.
Lol i couldnt even play long enough for a base defense mission the screen tearing and sound was so bad i couldnt stand it.
Set up in Ravinen in the Farmlands and you can line up your defenses in a row and funnel the enemy from a single direction. It also helps to use decoys:

I don't care about aesthetics, I look for indestructible game world objects and then exploit them. I have my furnace between two game world objects.

My old strategy to defend the base was to start doing damage to incoming machines PVG 90 and then AG 4 as they get even closer. Then those that are still coming I switch to KVM 59 and, the only base weapons at the time was the machine gun boxes, would start kicking in too. Any remaining machines would be cleared with the M46, hand grenades and rockets. Then patch up the base between waves.

From what I have seen, from joining public co-ops right now, my strategy should still work. In some cases all the base needs is a better defense plan from the structure and the host that put it together. All the maps I joined that had bases were lower level players too. Explains the poor game plans. One base was doors only and all opened inward.:laughing_yeti:

The map shows what process the control point offers, so that makes it a little easier on what to build where. .....So much to learn and waste time not hunting the machines.:crying_yeti:

The only base you should consider is a drill base so you can
make a stronger base.
Tyloveden, Dyrbo and Kallebyviken are great.

Korpborgen Ruins is slightly bugged and gives half of
what it should now and then.

Torsberga is awkward to build and has lots of 'extras' showing
up from the prison.

Those are the spots I'm using at the moment.
Place the drills first as they take a LOT of room.

Thinking about it you <might> want to wait for
this 'hotfix' and see what they do.
Maybe claim some drill spots?

Thank you for the building notes, they make sense. :happy_yeti:

I am already waiting for the hotfix to finish the game. But I am in no rush. My exp ammo supplies are feeling the stress of this update since, I can't craft them anymore. But hand grenades are filling in to the hotfix or are build something.

It is nice the map shows you what to set up at each control point and I know the area well around each of them so that is a plus, and your insights. Now all I need is the will to do it. :steamdeadpan:

Question on passive base resource generation, I now have 2 farmland bases and when I check my home base screen it has that 'gain' listing, which seems to have gone up since I earned another base...but how often does it generate resources? Is it like the refresh of loot containers? (4hrs?) or something? Where do these resources go to, do they just show up in my inventory, or my recycle storage if i have a bench there?

I am not aware of any passive resource generation. The new structures require activating and defending in order to produce resources. What is this home base screen you refer to? Are we playing the same game? lol If you mean the defense points on the map screen you get them when you destroy a FNIX control point. Not really sure what you mean - I think you're confused but it could just be me, lol.

I suggested to Dev in direct contact trough their support to add the new materials to other sources because this actual one very limit the freedome we had in GZ to farm materials.
They answered that they surely rework this and consider my suggestion. Also they likely rebalance the mats we can get as also the cost we need to craft.

Is the screen I see when I inspect the box at my base, this is the box that also allows me to click 'repair base' if its damaged. Unless that 'gain' just means if I abandon the base that's the number of resources I'll recover from the buildings AT that base?

That is what you gain when you "abandon" the control point and tear down the truck.
