Survival mode
Please, add water and food meters as an option to play. Not like Day Z, more akin to RED dead 2 and Valhiem.

That is sarcasm right? :happy_yeti:

Hell nah. I hate having to constantly keep eating and drinking in those type of games. I already have to do that nonsense in real life :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

Your not a true hardcore gamer if you have not starved/thirst yourself at least one time IRL, when getting addicted to a certain game lol.

Just joking lol, but imo if the survival mechanics are done with a purpose and not just tacked on (like most survival games) it could add to the experience.

I feel when a game just adds a food/thirst meter and call it a survival game that is the most laziest way to go about it. If you make a skill/perk system that has some real benefits (and disadvantages) along with gameplay changing elements, that would be much more interesting, but this game does not need survival elements.

The current gameplay loop is fine as it is, and it allows for much more action/combat over scrounging to food/materials to stay alive.

Fallout 76 originally had a food/thirst meter that negatively impacted the player if you didn't keep up with it but was changed to provide buffs only. I wish more survival games did that.

During a Machine Invasion Apocalypise, what is the main threat? The machines. So why distract from that?

There are other games that do Survival Aspects WAY BETTER than Generation Zero can or will ever be able to do, given that Generation Zero's story MUST FOCUS on the Combat Survivor Aspect and it's Combat Related Story Aspect so much to be Generation Zero.

Given that at times Systemic Reaction struggles to even achieve it's own necessities to its own vision of the Machine Invasion Apocalypse for Mankind, does one really want to them to jury-rig basic necessities (food, drink, shelter, bathroom needs) into the game?

Arguably, those needs, as others said, are already fulfilled. Look at all the dang loot already. If we have access to that much ammo, that much clothing, that many buildings with flashlights in them, that much gasoline -- what makes you think we can't hunt birds for food, find stashes of survival supplies like canned food in stores or homes anyway.

So isn't that tremendous RE-SPAWNING LOOT a clue that this is already so accessible in the game, that they decided to remove it to extrapolate the already sometimes cumbersome inventory and crafting management?

I think this is an example of less is more for this type of intended gameplay.

I'd again refer anyone to Stalker Anomaly and the ability to customize it with the mods you want, for a superior and customized Survival Experience. And, IT IS FREE.

You could try using mods for Generation Zero, but I doubt there are such mods, and if they are, I'm fairly sure they will not work as well nor as long as any similar mods for Stalker Anomaly.

And there are numerous other games which likely can make a similar claim, without hampering the core experience of Generation Zero.

Opinions may vary, but that's what I do. I would not trade one for the other, when I want either type of survival type game. When I get tired of Generation Zero's combat and streamlining, I start up one of my saves from Stalker Anomaly and mod it if I want differently, although I have a current set-up that works for me.

If I tire of Stalker Anomaly, I go to Generation Zero.

No matter what game, most games cannot and should not be everything to everyman. First it would take forever, constantly be bugged, and cost a fortune unless made by loving fans that don't need to be paid. Second, one of the main curses that bring gaming companies and games down and destroy them is the wish to add infinite features to already working or barely working games that already may be having difficulty surviving with continuing development.

That said. A committed, well-organized, focused, and adequately funded development team could achieve success at it, but obviously it was not the current vision. Complexity added to a team that seems limited currently to do much more, doesn't seem a great idea to me right now.

Anyway, whatever. I see little reward here for potentially a great loss of focus and perhaps even the curse that trying to do this would lead to multiple issues with bugs and even finishing off the main premise of the game and the current implementation.

One can survive in the Finnish Wilderness unless this Archipelago and other islands has poisoned waters, no fish, no birds are edible, and there are many survivors fighting over the tin cans and dried rice everywhere in the environment's buildings and bunkers. Not worth the wasted time. When you log off the game, all of this can be presumed to be simulated as sleep, eating, bathroom needs and the like. Notice when you play the game in one region, the other regions is ticking time to the next respawn of everything in the environment that can spawn. It's a way to reward any and all combat and exploration. I'd consider this part of the same theme.

That's the ridiculous over-explanation of NO, not a good idea ... and why.

This game has base building.... a bunch of people were also complaining....why build a base its too complicated and takes away from the invasion.... dumb. It is already in the game. Last time I checked Valhiem was more popular than this game, so is Tarkov and Day Z. People must like the survival mechanics. They obviously dont have to be heavy complex mechanics. They could be more akin to Valhiem or Red Dead 2. The world needs more immersion. It is a huge waste land with uninteresting things to loot after about 5 hours. Survival would revitalize this game, make my words.

"It is a huge waste land with uninteresting things to loot after about 5 hours" I could not disagree more with this statement.

I have about 20+ hours so far and looting has not gotten boring because you keep getting better tiered loot to deal with harder robots. Adding food and water to the looting pool will not drastically change the system. This simple gameplay loop alone keeps the player engaged because you are always getting stronger and better equipped for the games harder challenges.

After 5 hours you are probably not even out of the first island and that is easy mode compared to the later stuff. So I wholeheartedly disagree with this statement.

As far as survival mechanics I have gotten to the point that unless the survival aspects are interactive then I don't really care. No recent action game has really taken the approach that MGS3 did with having a more interactive survival system, where you have to manual manage your body from illness, poison, broken limbs...etc. I;m tired of survival games that are just about managing 2-3 different UI bars that really don't do anything but slow the experience down to a crawl.

I'm tired of half baked survival mechanics and their needs to be some innovation, which was peaked at MGS3 imo (even the more recent GR breakpoint did this decently). I'm also not talking about pure survival games but action games with survival mechanics.

Role playing and just adding more freedom for the player. Do you want to use the premade safehouses or do you want to make your own, with defenses, and with the potential to get attacked for some loot? Its lets the player decide so which ever you prefer you can ignore that other.

It would be like wanting to remove many of the useless features in a Fallout or Elder scrolls game, when in realility the choice is what make it interesting. Many people ignored the base building in Fallout 4 and many people loved it. It was a feature there for those who wanted it but it also was not forced for those who did not.

Its just player choice to play how they want.

I'm almost 40 hours in and im burnt out. So are my player group. Game mechanics get stale after about 10-20. I paid 10 bucks for the game so I got my money's worth. I would like to see survival mechanics akin to Tarkov specifically. Not where you have to eat and drink every 5 min but once a day and like i said the eating should be more like read dead 2 and valheim and the injury system should be more like tarkov.

I would much rather them focus more on the robot vs player combat over survival mechanics. For example it would be cool if you could blow legs off and robots have to crawl towards you, or when you shoot off the guns you can pick them up and utilize them mid combat. Maybe sensors you can destroy that makes their targeting much more inaccurate.

Survival systems are usually hit and miss imo they are either too complex to the point they make the game a chore or they are just thirst/food/sleep bars to keep up that adds nothing.

I feel keeping focus with theme over adding survival just for the sake of it is much better suited for this game (or a sequel). As I mentioned in the previous post the setting and world building is not really a good fit for hardcore survival elements. There is no Apocalypse, where resources are scarce, food is everywhere, guns are everywhere, shelter is everywhere,...etc. It was just an opposing force of robots took over the island, forced/killed the inhabitants (in a short period of time) and your kind of stuck exploring/figuring out what happened, with all the materials that were left behind.

"I'm almost 40 hours in and im burnt out. So are my player group. Game mechanics get stale after about 10-20. I paid 10 bucks for the game so I got my money's worth. "

So the health system needs to be completely redesigned so that dying from lack of food or water is now a thing? Can't just do a adrenaline shot or a few health kits to restore health. Can't just spawn back to a safe house? There is no penalty for dying in Gen Zero, I can see wanting that changed. The crafting of clothing needs to be completely redone so you can protect yourself from the elements? So redesign the whole game so you can play it a few more hours and it's a 4 year old game.

Most would just face the fact the game isn't for them and move on. But I don't understand players wanting older games, they picked up at a discount price, changed to be just like other games they have played so they can be just like those other games.

I buy and play different games because they are DIFFERENT and not because I want all games to be the same.
MattWard Apr 3, 2023 @ 8:38am
Literally play DayZ.

Anyways, if for whatever reason they do decide to add survival mechanics, I'm hoping they make it a toggleable setting (IE: Skyrim's survival mode).
