Companions need more control commands
Otherwise it is easy to be killed by the enemy, you need to order it to retreat, or close to follow yourself and so on.

In addition, I regret buying this DLC, the model is still old, and there is no more design. It feels very generic.

the design was deliberately chosen because it is based on the existing machines. nothing else could have been chosen here. the choice was more than logical to do it that way. and yes, tax commands would be a great addition. but it would be enough if the companion was solely geared towards the player. example: if the player shoots at an enemy machine, the companion should do the same immediately. In some cases, unfortunately, he doesn't. if the player retreats, the companion should also immediately follow the player. in the hunter call of the wild you can give commands to your dog using a command wheel. it would be conceivable that something like this could also be implanted here. it remains to be seen how the developers could solve this problem.

I am sorry but there were enough pictures of the companion being a runner with a little cosmetic changes, and you did not bother looking into it before you bought the DLC. That is 100% on you.

The companion does follow you, if you run away from the fight, it does also. What it doesn't do is hide from direct fire. As a spotter, it does mark a target, may not be the one you want but it does do it.

The dev need to work out the bugs the update caused and then I am sure the companion will be upgraded.

1) Tends to follow flares for direction also, if in view of the Pet.

2) Tends to attack something that you actually do damage to with a shot.

3) Tends to attack something that does damage to you or to it.

Otherwise, has to be rather close to an enemy to engage directly. Sometimes shoots thru hills if the incline is too much. Will follow your overall movement.

So I use the first three options listed here to get it more active, when I can.

It's basically an actual runner, but it's link to the FNIX system is jammed. So it behaves exactly like the dogs, but because the link is disabled/jammed it's IFF isn't set to kill you. It's set to protect you as best as it can with the means it has which means is does so at any cost. Kind of prefer it this way, but yes having basic commands would be nice, but so far it does what it is intended to do, buy you time.

Yep, buys time, and adds Damage Per Second. Even if it isn't much time, it allows you enough to find cover, get over a ridge, switch weapons, reload, often. Especially when swarmed. And its juking and jiving causes a whole lot of enemy misses also. Maybe I can learn some moves from it.

Currently, the companion seems to have some severe ADHD. It'll target something and never fire its missile, and repeats this several times before finally engaging something. I'm fighting for my life and it's in crisis trying to find a target.

Does anyone know how to get it to perform the trick ?

While in game press M, click on Emote, drag the emote to the emote wheel, Then while in game press C, and choose the trick you want you companion to do.

Anyway, I wished the devs had used their time in coding the game to allow the player to issue basic commands like: take cover, follow me, defend this, etc.

I wished the devs had used their time in coding to add a following to the story, add some new contents, correct bugs and work on AI rather than being lazy and teasing with this more than optional(useless ?)DLC...
Still love the game, but the lack of real update is starting to be felt...

The ability for short distance way points and assign a target, via the "G" command, for the runner has helped. But lots of room for improvement.

i don't see that "G" in keybinds or instructions for it ..

i will try the "g" on next load up ..

also short distance waypoint ?

is that the same as setting a waypoint or no difference ?

because it doesn't seem to work for me ..

@ NativeOne

it was in one of the more recent patch notes (probably this year). Basically it places a waypoint that will stay up about 10-20 seconds and is rather short ranged.

I'd guess, from lousy memory, that the Companion will ONLY OBEY IT once you the player are within maybe 30 or so meters of the waypoint. And again, it will only go there and stay there for maybe 20 seconds, I think it is less long.

But you can basically spam it. But, when spammed, the previous waypoint is immediately removed. So, that does give you some ability to get the Companion out of the way for a bit.

I was ABLE TO CHANGE THE KEYBIND, it might have required resetting it in the settings.json file. I think I changed mine to H for example. I'll check maybe later tonight.

I also found that, in general on Skirmish Difficulty, even if you move the runner right next to enemies, they often won't attack him -- but that varies. So you should experiment with that.

As usual, not all that useful a command (when it should be otherwise why add it, weird choice). Granted, there probably is some mindset within the company that making anything TOO USEFUL weakens those who don't either have the DLC or don't read the patch notes. But, ONE WOULD THINK, that could simply realize that some things really are quality of life, therefore improve the game for all.
