The companion does follow you, if you run away from the fight, it does also. What it doesn't do is hide from direct fire. As a spotter, it does mark a target, may not be the one you want but it does do it.
The dev need to work out the bugs the update caused and then I am sure the companion will be upgraded.
2) Tends to attack something that you actually do damage to with a shot.
3) Tends to attack something that does damage to you or to it.
Otherwise, has to be rather close to an enemy to engage directly. Sometimes shoots thru hills if the incline is too much. Will follow your overall movement.
So I use the first three options listed here to get it more active, when I can.
While in game press M, click on Emote, drag the emote to the emote wheel, Then while in game press C, and choose the trick you want you companion to do.
Anyway, I wished the devs had used their time in coding the game to allow the player to issue basic commands like: take cover, follow me, defend this, etc.
Still love the game, but the lack of real update is starting to be felt...
total agreement ..
i was looking for this ..
Bingo ..
i don't see that "G" in keybinds or instructions for it ..
i will try the "g" on next load up ..
also short distance waypoint ?
is that the same as setting a waypoint or no difference ?
because it doesn't seem to work for me ..
it was in one of the more recent patch notes (probably this year). Basically it places a waypoint that will stay up about 10-20 seconds and is rather short ranged.
I'd guess, from lousy memory, that the Companion will ONLY OBEY IT once you the player are within maybe 30 or so meters of the waypoint. And again, it will only go there and stay there for maybe 20 seconds, I think it is less long.
But you can basically spam it. But, when spammed, the previous waypoint is immediately removed. So, that does give you some ability to get the Companion out of the way for a bit.
I was ABLE TO CHANGE THE KEYBIND, it might have required resetting it in the settings.json file. I think I changed mine to H for example. I'll check maybe later tonight.
I also found that, in general on Skirmish Difficulty, even if you move the runner right next to enemies, they often won't attack him -- but that varies. So you should experiment with that.
As usual, not all that useful a command (when it should be otherwise why add it, weird choice). Granted, there probably is some mindset within the company that making anything TOO USEFUL weakens those who don't either have the DLC or don't read the patch notes. But, ONE WOULD THINK, that could simply realize that some things really are quality of life, therefore improve the game for all.
Thanks DedZedNub ..
very informative ..
