I can see where it would confuse a few thinking that it DOES have machines in the game and machines, self guided machine or robots, could be considered mechanical self guided machine as a mech.
"there's no mechs to be ridden or piloted." You are correct, you do not ride or pilot the machines in the game. Good catch.
Tanks might be considered by some as looking like your usual giant mech, and maybe hunters as a smaller human mech.
But, normally we call them machines or enemies.
As said above, it is just a user tag. Many games on Steam actually have what could be considered "joke" tags. This is a meme in itself on the Internet, destroying possibly useful features to get a chuckle, then ruining the future for others.
<Shrug> For this reason, some of us older bags of gas and blood tend to think the Internet is not the future for mankind. Go figure.
Oh, and remember, things like A.I. and say a ChatGPT crawler to learn, will be using these categories and form algorithms that will form the inteligence and marketing of the future. Garbage in, garbage out.
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I just see this game show up every time I take a chance and search for "mechs" or "open world mechs", and I'm always disappointed by what I see. It doesn't look like a bad game at all. It just doesn't look like a game for ME at all, either.
There are tanks and harvester in the game which could be defined as mechs.
meaning of words can change over time or the definition isn't explicit enough
good old shades of grey while people have different definitions in their head
it is also possible that game might get some option to turn into one of the enemy machines in the future, new vehicles were annouced on the roadmap
you can't mount the machines right now but you can fight against big so called mechs
titanfalls, gundam or mechwarrior series is the way to go if you want to fight as mech
than there are game with mechlike exosuits like no mans sky, subnautica or look at the fallout series where the powerarmor started as normal armor item and was turned into this exosuit thing in fallout 4
