Did Avalanche lie to me/us ?

i wrote a complaint to Avalanche to ask why didn't they allow cross play with XBOX and Steam/pc. And this is what i got.

Unfortunately, Generation Zero doesn't support crossplay. You can only play with your friends on the same platform - if you're on PC, your friend would have to play on PC as well.

Pc version isn't exactly the same version as on console.
They look the same for a big part, but they ain't the same...

I think this one led the OP to ask that question:

Steam runs on PC and Win10 Xbox Game Pass version runs on PC but no crossplay.

I find Adrian's response a bit lacking as well. If this is a template, it should be adjusted for more specifics.

Wow. CW just requoted Adrian and added "Steam runs on PC and Win10 Xbox Game Pass version runs on PC but no crossplay." Suddenly, the problem became clear.

What really surprised me is that several people did not see the problem in Adrian's response.

Not exactly BS because there's several games that while they do have crossplay as an option, this option comes with the consequence of updates taking LONGER to get out to those platforms, in the case of the crossplay between the Xbox and Microsoft store versions, Microsoft can fully gate keep updates from even coming to those versions and they've done this time and time again in the past as evidence with when Crash Course released for L4D1 Valve intended for the update to be FREE across all support platforms, Microsoft said "no you're not making it free on our console put a price tag on it or ♥♥♥♥ off" something Valve ended up having to do which I believe was roughly five bucks for a two map campaign.

OP question, as stated, was about xbox and steam/pc and not game pass.

It would have been better if Adrian went further and explained you can cross play on xbox and game pass, but that doesn't seem like it is the question the op asked.

I think that MS xbox game pass is something that you pay a monthly fee for, steam you do not. You just buy the license to play the game.

ahh you see wasn't there a big update posted on Generation zero tell us that crossplay has been added and even then they where a bit touchy on that news

Yup that was the original question.

But Adrian's response was confusing as he stated that the PC versions (did not mention Steam at all) can crossplay. If OP knew that Win10 Xbox PC can't crossplay with Steam PC, Adrian's response will be incorrect because they can't actually crossplay.
