Solo?
I read this game is terrible to play solo. Any truth to that or has it been updated to be more friendly to the friendless?

Just buy it and, to be sure, play it for 30 minutes and refund. Lots of people play this on solo mode despite its bugs, glitches, years old request not being addressed by the developers, new bugs and glitches introduced by the Feb 8 Landfall Update, no crossplay between Steam version and Pass/Xbox version, etc.

Unfortunately, 30 minutes will not be enough on which to make an intelligent decision. You'll be playing on the Archipelago region, which is the easiest stage, even on the hardest difficulty level but the difficulty will jump up once you venture out of the first region.

Is it bad, good, fun or boring, these are personal and subjective things, you decide.

Games are games. Even the worst games can get people to buy them, it does not matter whether they would finally like them or not. Game developers know this.

I've played it (so far) 5 hours solo according to steam and i've enjoyed it so far. I do think it would be better with other people though.

Personally, I'm having a blast solo. If you're unsure of the game, stick it on Adventure difficulty and adjust to the game mechanics. Stealth is a good way to advance until you get some better weapons and skills. It may seem like a slog but once you've gotten used to how the game functions, the enemies and the like, you'll be soloing a shed load of machines no problem. Check out Tenebris Infinite on Youtube, his channel has a ton of videos that help explain the game.

It's totally playable solo and it always has been. Most of the complaints about it are from people who didn't understand the game mechanics or simply aren't good at shooters that make you think about your actions. Sure, you can run and gun some enemies but generally that's a bad idea and usually there are better ways to deal with enemies. You won't need to fight every bot you run into, and in some situations being stealthy, or simply avoiding enemies, is the best option.

There's a learning curve and once you get the hang of it you will very likely find that the easiest difficulty setting isn't enough of a challenge.

I've only really played SOLO i think it is t best way. The game gets too easy when you have friends and you never really get that jump scare moment when you have a buddy shooting at the robots too.

Multiplayer is a addition not a necessity.

Also should note i have 241-hours in this game so far and still playing.

I have now spent over 2260 hours on the game. I can still remember how I started with the small arms. when I shot at a tank with a hunting rifle. how many shots i had to fire at him until he was dead. how i fought a big battle with nothing more than an AG4 with 3 crowns against the machines. 6 tanks + 6 harvesta + 30 hunters and runners. How lucky I was to survive. how hard some missions were. etc... etc... since the update of February 8th, 2022 it has become even more difficult for players who are just starting out. if i, who already has all expo weapons and plenty of combat experience, have difficulties with the new russian machines. what should beginners do with small arms? It's sad to see that the developers didn't think of this. If I were to just start the game now, I would probably not be lucky enough to complete some of the missions. especially if it would go to the northwest. without expo weapons you are hopelessly inferior. the update from 08.02.2022 shows me that the developers have not thought about it again. they just do it without thinking. they want to make things better and only make things worse. one mistake follows the next in an endless series of mistakes. They started something and just don't know how to continue. they come up with one sick crap after another and the real problems continue to be nicely ignored. pathetic.

Co-op play very quickly becomes about going from place to place quickly to blow stuff up. Solo play lets you move at your own pace, explore, follow the story, or just blow stuff up yourself. It used to be a great game solo, I'm not sure how it plays now though.

I play on the easiest difficulty setting and it's quite easy, but I play very slowly and I ambush robots. I'm still in the Archipelago Region though...

I recommend you to wait until the end of the year or even 2023, because maybe they will stop adding new content and deliver final "Quality-of-Life" and bug fixes passes.

As of right now, the game has a lot of minor immersion-breaking bugs which affect early game: map not updating in realtime for some locations (Talludden), gamepad controls not supporting prone-to-crouch, notifications not always working, inaccurate collectible checklists, quickslots having no memory when they get depleted, etc. The list is long, and I doubt they will fix and polish the game as long as they keep delivering DLCs and features updates.

The game is great, really, but it's raw. Hopefully they deliver a better game with a paid remastered version or a sequel. 🤷‍♂️

overall what you wrote is correct. but since the update you can forget that. it's just sad. it has totally degenerated, and finding good people in co-op has always been a big challenge. you have to find the people first. a lot of my friends don't play it anymore, precisely because it has degraded. it has now become irrelevant. most of the time you can only watch the battles between the machines. and you can only do the individual fights with the machines if you meet them alone. fighting with the russian machines has become completely hectic and wild. and totally unbalanced. not like the swedish machines. It's still fun to fight with them. the Russian ones are more crampy. I don't like fighting with them. you can't do anything with the new weapon wheel. what's the point of such a thing if you're forced to use the keyboard. the weapon wheel is completely pointless. I tried to get my hands on a grenade yesterday. I always only had the kvm/59 in my hand. the switch didn't work. I could turn the mouse wheel as I wanted. do that in the open field where you can't go where behind. I was in a town, I'm behind a house. there i had to press the tab key and select the grenade that way. stupid.

i played the whole story solo before starting to explore coop.
i can only agree game gets much easier in coop to the point where it feels trivial.

There are also some bugs which make the multiplayer experience annoying while it leads to crash or dc. The game is more stable in sp or tiny 2p mp.

Very fun game solo. . . when it doesn't crash. New updates, maybe not.
Mr Blonde Mar 5, 2022 @ 6:51pm
I'll tell you know I've owned the game since day 1 on Xbox and decided to get it here it's amazing with friends but still playable and enjoyable solo

I play solo, haven't tried mulitplayer. I tried the game back before the content updates, didn't care for it. Just tried it again the last several days now I can play it for several hours (too many!) in one sitting. LOVE it.
The only thing actually difficult - where more players would help - is the base defense. I had to replay the hill several times, and last night I just failed my first try defending the hotel.
Part of it is learning the flow of the battle, part is having enough resources. Doing it solo is doable, just tough.
All the other battles to this point are sometimes tough, but there are plenty of adrenaline and health packs available. Running away and grabbing more is doable.
Unless you keep starting fights in open fields...(don't)
Try to start battles in or near cover.
Always shoot and relocate, shoot relocate...

Also I haven't had it crash. Ever.
