What's the best to protect against the metal machines? Wood of course! Being apparently like one of those little pigs I need tons of wood for my new base, because I want it to be an IKEA-like made of wood! Are there any ways to get wood faster than just loot it randomly around the world? Any specific places where to look?

Kidding, it's in household loot like toolboxes, backpacks etc, or just do what the above guy said.

If you have Alpine Unrest, I get about 130 from each trip to it if you fully loot the hotel

Saltham, Fishback, Himarvet, Klinte, etc. Any town with a significant amount of houses or locations with lots of backpacks/toolboxes/suitcases can yield lots of wood. Got over 350 wood in 2 hours from looting these places. Archipelago has lots of thread loot, which is needed for MG nests.

I've discovered that the Nyhamnen Ferry Pier in the Forest Region (1154,824) can be farmed every day, if not every four hours for wood. Yields around 100 wood per trip. Just hit all the shipping containers.

This location is also great for farming other materials and ammo.

If fast traveling does not re-spawn wood. exiting to Main Menu while in the game and pressing Continue will practically respawn every single re-spawnable game elements including the two tanks in Littorp, etc.

Due to poor resouces amount in the game of what you really need, Using cheat mods is definitely worth it to avoid the grinding.

just don't use wood constructions.
and don't grind base defenses early in game.
