We need a LARGE Tripod robot?
Don't you guys think a War of the world type tripod would be terrifying? Something that isn't killed that easy and you need to hide from. Maybe only a few in the entire game world.

If it was an extraterrestrial type game, I could see that. But aside from a few notes found that refer to them as aliens, there's nothing to back up that narrative. The story points more toward a military research project gone bad.
I like the idea!!!

Where did he say they would be aliens? I think that's in your head, not his. He is just referring to a design for a robot.

Hmm, well, we have a quest 'Tilting at Windmills' so how's about use that as a spring board. Tripods, but with a unique gimmick of turrets on each leg, at the top, aimed down, so one or two can be aimed at you at one time, with a central portion that can 'slam' into the ground when it gets into position, like the legs are 'hollow' on the inside, with rails that shoot it down into the dirt like a carnival ride, but slightly safer. That creates a shockwave attack like the other melee big guys, but with a slightly more obvious wind up. The central mass 'rides' at about on third the way down the legs, to give them room to swing, and it makes a loud noise all the time, maybe about twice to three times as tall as the Tanks/Harvesters, so let it really loom over the player.

alternates to lots of robots would add a good layer of diversity.

at some point, you see a lot of hunters and runners and you're really used to shredding them like cheese.
maybe something with a turret on treads,
a four legged hunter size, and maybe a two legged runner size, a little baby hunter.

anything for sidegrades,

the harvester is almost a sidegrade to the tank, but a harvester fight is not a hard fight, THIRTY hunters is.

Someone hasn't gotten the log OR met what's the name of that survivor in the FNIX DLC that thinks the Robots are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ aliens!

Terrifying is one thing, making it something you HAVE to hide from is just something that will be annoying since the idea of something being terrifying is subjective from individual to individual as some don't see unkillable enemies terrifying they just see them as annoyances.

To be fair, an APOC class anything is a hard fight, not because it's actually hard in the general sense, most other than tanks still go down easy enough with some focused fire. The problem is they love to stack DOT effects all the darn time, and out damage any healing you do, even Ticks.

a large robot? we need ANY new robot lol!

I never had a problem with APOC Tanks because the only thing they tend to stack are those mines which can be avoided, also what healing items are you trying to use if its being out-damaged by an APOC Tank?

It doesn't need to be a thin-legged alien of sorts. Diversity can be brought in the smaller details.

The changes they are coming up with actually makes the combat easier. The weapon alternates on many existing machine variants will never hit you if you just keep moving. Even on APOC-class machines all you gotta do is kill their rifles/MGs, because even when sprinting you cannot always reliably dodge those. Everything else you can avoid with relative ease, be it explosive rockets, gas rockets, proximity mines, buckshot pellets or sniper rifles.

The only thing that can still mess me up personally a bit is if I don't have flares or EMPs to keep a harvester busy or "offline" long enough that it won't call in hunter reinforcements and if runners with rifles/MGs are joining the battle too. But the standard hunter reinforcements are more of a nuisance than a serious problem, especially if they have those shotguns, because those will >never< hit you if you move just a little. The sniper hunters are missing all their shots all the time too.

If there is something I'd maybe like to see then it's a machine with a minigun that will actually force you to keep your head down or at least seriously covered. One that you can only beat by repositioning yourself frequently or dropping flares and smokes to force it to realign it's firing or something like that.

The firing durations and intervals of the existing rifles/MGs being used are very predictable and short and only become an issue if you are not paying attention to the visual/audio cues. And perhaps trees should be mown down by them. You can hide behind the thinnest trees for an eternity blocking all the MG fire.

Seems like somebody has not spawned the Reaper Tank yet.

Reaper Tank is the prototype you see in the one FOA area the story brings you through and when you leave the facility the prototype is missing. This may fit the bill of what you are looking for.

He has 4 shields which activate constantly so you only have small opportunities to damage them, the gun on it shoots a lot faster and much more accurately and the launcher leaves radioactive slime on the ground. What is nasty is the thermobaric weapon, emits a giant cloud of gas then ignites it, hiding from it is the only way, it covers a massive area so find cover.

Only one can spawn at any given time and only in a zone that is level 21+. Each zone can have at max 8 rivals so you have to keep a slot open to get it to pop up.

yes, but he is still just. a tank.

i think what we're looking for is a sidegrade to some of the robot types we have, or something crazy and different, that spawns normally.
not a suped up rival tank with a few unique mechanics that you spawn as a megaboss
