AP vs FMJ
Is FMJ doing better against critical components or unarmored target or is AP just over all the better ammo to use?

HP and SP ammo is the best for component damage overall, used by the magnum and hunting rifles over FMJ rounds.

If your aim sucks you should use the AP for most everything, it is good at getting through armor. But if you have a good aim and know where to hit, the FMJ is the way to go.
Fastest way to take down a tank, FMJ in the soft spots. Fast way to take down a harvester is the AP rounds. Hunters, soft spots, FMJ, your aim sucks AP. Runners, ticks and seekers, whatever is in the chamber.

A lot of players will say the AP round is the way to go.. it's cause their aim sucks! LOL

Which is the best when using the experimental anti-materiel rifle? It already penetrates targets, right? So is AP pointless with it?

Regardless of which weapon you are using....

Still applies.

Yes but if the experimental anti-materiel rifle ALREADY HAS piercing capabilities, does the AP ammo actually penetrate BETTER somehow, or does it simply go straight through the enemy and out the back already, therefore you gain nothing from the AP ammo in this case?

I'm sure I read somewhere the gun can fire through multiple enemies in a row.

My aim doesn't suck, but AP suits my style of gameplay better, so I've been using it more lately. I've never counted how many rounds of a given type it took to accomplish certain tasks, though. I took down a Tank last night before it could even finish turning around, so maybe I'm not completely horrible and wrong.

You should aim for components most of the time since that will make your life easier (gun emplacements on the machines count as such, and should be removed totally or selectively depending on the type of enemy - you just don't want hunters and bigger machines shoot at you in turn with MGs and rockets).

There is a perk increasing your component damage as well. Most of the time I carry only FMJ ammo with me. AP I only have as reserves on-the-go, or for weapons where you don't always get too many ammo drops for like that high-powered .50-something caliber sniper rifle.

The binoculars will reveal what classifies as component and what as armor, but you need the "tech view" that comes with the perk that reveals detailed enemy information when using it. Generally there will always be more components than armor pieces. Armor pieces usually drop relatively fast only to expose a component below. So in the end you will eventually return to focusing a component with your guns one way or the other.
