PLEASE Improve the Inventory Management System
I LOVE Generation Zero. I love Generation Zero that I bought it for 12 of my friends: ZiciLovania, Walmart Employee, totally not a spy, ZLS_Paladin, pigloover101, speedy, columbus, Clashknight90, FireOFPies, Carolus Rex, Mami Musket Massacre, Wilson, and Knitler.

However, I no longer want to play this game because of its inventory management.

This is because if you compare Gen Zero's inventory system to any other game's inventory, such as Fallout games, it is years behind in what it should be. For what I can say off the top of my head:

  1. Can't sort alphabetically in All Inventory

  2. Can't sort by item type in All inventory (weapons, ammo, health, distractions, explosives, etc.)

  3. Can't sort by weight in any Inventory group

  4. Cannot use items in inventory

  5. Ammo in inventory system only shows itself assigned to a weapon if it is currently loaded.

For instance, if 12ga Buck Shot is loaded into a shotgun, it will not show a gun icon next to 12ga Bird Shot and 12ga Slug Ammo, therefore depositing everything into your box deposits all your other ammo types.

  6. Weapon add-ons that are equipped still show up in your inventory instead of being merged into the gun, so you might accidentally deposit them

  7. Cannot tell which add-ons in the Storage Station is equipped to which weapon.

I completely agree, we're being WAY too hard on the devs. This is not why I started this thread.

The devs deserve most of the complaints and ridicules thrown at them. Why is that?

The game's look and feel multiplayer game portrayed in the promotion video — is the advertising promise and its selling point.

But as in all advertising promise, the pendulum could swing to the opposite side, if the post sale experience is very negative. That happened in this game

  1. Bugs and glitches littered the game upon it release on 26 March 2019. Most of the bugs and glitches were ironed out around Feb 2021. The length of time it took the devs to more or less fix them, including the flawed corruption prone saving mechanics that had wiped out many players' game progress from day 1 with a single instance of save corruption — obliterated the advertising promise.

Those who played the beta version had the highest expectation that the official release would be much improved but it did not.

Worse the players were left on their own to come out with workarounds as shown by examples below.
    * Corrupt save workaround: Example is this post by ⛔️Don'tGetPlayed🏓 dated 24 Dec, 2020 @ 12:05pm https://steamcommunity.com/app/704270/discussions/0/3003303575716937530/ The title and some original contents were changed to reflect the Feb fix. You should have seen the originals.

    * New Game Plus workaround. https://steamcommunity.com/app/704270/discussions/0/3043858879864966138/ Official NG+ is not yet implemented in this game.

  2. Is there any mitigating factor for the devs record? Because Systemic Reaction, the one handling GenZero, is a smaller unit of Avalanche Studios? Maybe, but the price certainly says they should be treated just like any other profit-oriented company (converted to US dollar):

Generation Zero w/ 5 DLC (by Systemic Reaction)
    13.95 US dollar
Horizon Zero Dawn, w/ 7 DLC (by Guerrilla, pub by Sony)
    17.36 US dollar
Second Extinction, (Early Access) (by Systemic Reaction)
    9.56 US dollar
    Just Cause 3 (Avalanche Studios)
    17.58 US dollar

  3. Using harsh words are mostly ok, insulting words ARE NOT.

NOTE: The rating of the base game has improved slightly compared to several months ago as newer players, who did not undergo the tremendous bugs and glitches of this game, (including those who quit playing years ago and have recently returned) are giving it better ratings.

The inventory on each character is very easy to manage. Just drop each item, one column at a time and pick them up in the order you want them to be in each list. As for as the plundra/locker, I only keep in it what I use with exception of the attachments. All my character have weapons, they are not in the locker so that list is empty. Only use adrenaline shots, one type of health kit, grenades, field radios and a few lock picks. I can see it all without scrolling. Only store ammo my weapons use. 7.62, 4 types, 9MM SMG, 3 types, 9MM 4 types, and 50 cal, 3 types. And the attachments are already on my weapons so not a lot in there.

When you store weapons in the locker, take the ammo out before you store them. If you store them with all the attachments then to see what attachments they have, pull the weapon out of inventory, like you would pick it up to look at it. There are icons for each attachment that shows if it has that attachment.

Use one of your other characters to keep the locker straight, not your main player character. Use the extra character just before you go into battle and stock the locker with only what you will be using at the time, leaving space for more supplies. As you loot more supplies, you dump it into the locker. When you are done battling, top your main character off and then switch to your other character to sort out the inventory in the locker. That way, you are always ready for battle and well supplied with what you need.

The inventory, while different from most other games and could use some more options isn't a game-breaking issue and isn't hard to get used to if you allow yourself.

And there are several ways to handle storage transfers with weapons with attachments.

Sounds like you want the game to change to meet your preferences than learning how the system works. And not everyone has the same preferences.

Your second sentence directly contradicted your first sentence. In what way is it "very easy" to manage your inventory if it requires individually dropping each and every single item? In what other game are you expected to drop all your items in order to organize your inventory?

This is very good advice, thank you. However, the fact that we're required to use multiple characters for proper inventory management belies calling it an easy inventory management system.

The inventory is the #1 complaint about this game that both I and all of the friends I bought this game for have.

I literally didn't, stop putting words in my mouth.

I want the devs to add MORE functionality to the inventory system so that EVERYONE can use the system however they please, according to their own preferences, instead of the ONE and only way that the inventory system works now, with no sort orders whatsoever.

So please, tell me: how does the system work? What did I get wrong or miss?

This inventory system is the reason I dont play anymore. Garbage.
❌️▶️👱 Jul 29, 2021 @ 10:13pm
It maybe that the inventory system is not game breaking for players who have already played the game for quite sometime, but it can be game breaking or at least very irritating, annoying to some others, especially new comers.

Let's face it, the inventory system, and many others in this game, are poorly designed.

I accidentally recycled my two main guns because "recycle" and "take" are both the E key? Big oof.

When I'm at a weapon locker I want a quick key to to store all the ammo that is not relevant to the guns I'm carrying. Store all in category is WAY too aggressive.

The inventory/UI has been ♥♥♥♥ in this game since launch. They "re-designed" it all because people complained about it being ♥♥♥♥.... and it was STILL ♥♥♥♥ after that. How does that guy still have a job?

Sometimes I wonder if these guys even play video games or know what one even looks like. It's like computer science engineers got together without ever having played a real video game and wanted to make one anyway. No sense of workflow from the inventory system to the horribly underwhelming crafting system. Give the outdoors art team and land designers a raise, for sure, but please fire everyone else and ask for experienced people. A game that looks this good should not be this bad to play.

Nevermind your problems, have a weapon wheel and crosshair customization instead

The inventory management is the reason why I hardly find any motivation. You find so much stuff on your journey and you are often busy with inventory. It should be quick and easy with many filtering and sorting options. Everything else is just annoying in the long run.

I ALMOST DID THIS WHEN I WAS FIGHTING THE REAPER!

I was so mad that I came this close to losing my experimental gun. Thankfully I didn't!

That's why my advice if you want to scrap something is to drag it that way you have less chance of scrapping your main guns i mean that's what i do.

I seriously don't understand the hate the inventory gets. Yeah it needs improvement and options but I've had no trouble at all adapting to it's quirks. Managing the weight can be a pain, but then most games have at least one (or more) features that get annoying. And we finally have a weight update coming.

I would be fine with the current system if they added some kind of working sorting option.
I would love if they get rid of the long itemnames that scrolls sideways over and over.
and working on how to make the down/upscrolling of lists load their icons faster.

Lets see what the weaponwheelupdate brings.

The thing that gets to me the most of the fact that it reorganizes itself every time something is taken out of it
